I've followed the instructions to a T to try and get pupdmd working to display DMD's for FX3 and it's just not working.

I'm using a legit Steam account and paid for the games and the games and backglass loads but I don't see a DMD anywhere.

I don't understand the resolution settings, as to me, by zeroing everything else out and setting the size to 520x136 it makes sense that I DON'T see the DMD, but I did what the instructions said.  I also verified I'm using 1.40.4 so I don't know where to go from here??

I have a virtual DMD on screen 3 with a resolution of 1366x768 if that matters BTW.

I'm confused by this line in the instructions, though:

"This will be using Freezy DmdDevice.dll and DmdDevice.ini files just like visual pinball."

So what am I supposed to do with these two files exactly?

For me, Pinball-FX3 on Steam runs fine by itself (nothing from VPX is needed).

I think as long as your 3 monitors are connected to your video-card, they will display the playfield, backglass, and DMD.

I'm guessing you already have your Zen-Studios cabinet code, because you said:

I have a virtual DMD on screen 3 with a resolution of 1366x768 if that matters BTW.

Sounds like you just need to use proper coordinates to shift it to proper monitor.

What threw me off was the part that says the resolution "MUST BE" (it was bold and in all caps I believe) 520x136 (or something like that) which just simply isn't right for my screen.

I did what you suggested and changed it to the values appropriate for my monitor and now it's working.

I wonder why we're told to set it to that odd resolution when the only thing that worked for me was setting it to the correct resolution/size and position?

Thanks for your help!

1. I did what you suggested and changed it to the values appropriate for my monitor and now it's working. Thanks for your help!

2. What threw me off was the part that says the resolution "MUST BE" (it was bold and in all caps I believe) 520x136 (or something like that) which just simply isn't right for my screen.

1. Excellent. You are welcome.

2. Having an actual cabinet (finally) and installing/setting-up VPX for the first time ... its all new to me. That is in addition to new-installs of TPA and FX3 on actual cabinet hardware.

I have noticed that as I search the Internet and this forum for info ... I often run-across directions with "definitive instructions" that end-up being not quite right. I think it might be because there is a lot of variation in existing hardware and peoples current Windows settings.

But as long as they at least lead me in the proper direction, and I eventually figure it out, I'm still happy and appreciate the help just the same.

I also again realize that I really prefer written directions and pics (like in a forum or blog). Not sure why everything has to be a (usually lacking detail) YouTube video now-days.

This is how it's done. ...then you may have to go back and set the VPX settings to 0 offset after. I got it.

I'll add a response in case future people see this thread.  All the responses are trying to help, but they are all incorrect for your question.  The pinup/fx wiki is still accurate and you MUST have that resolution set IF you want to use the freezy/dmdext/pupdmdcontrol DMD which looks much nicer than the standard fx3 one.   Also, following the wiki would allow you to use pup-packs in FX3 if you want that option as well.

You can keep what you did, just wanted you and others to know that it's not the best looking DMD you're seeing.

Bit late joining in here , but i only recently upgraded to 3 screens, but even though its small the resolution of my dmd monitor is 1920 x 1080,

520 x 136 looks minute on it :/

So that 520x136 is the built in FX3 DMD resolution so freezy/dmdext/pupdmdcontrol can capture it properly and than freezy/dmdext will show it's virtual DMD. That virtual DMD you can resize, and apply effects however you want.
