Hi There,

i have pinballx and normally when you scroll trough the tables and there is no dmd video it shows the standard pinballx video. (it used to work)

I know there is a video but tried everything to get it started on my real dmd (pindmdv3)

  1. which name and filetype do I have to use and in which folder
  2. which option do I have to use in pinballx (or elsewhere)\

I've red every item on this and still don't understand it. Maybe it's my crappy English  :tongue3:

There is nothing wrong with your english :)

Have you changed something lately - like running SAM and color roms ? If so, then I expect you need to change a few dll files.

Yeah - well. the first thread included the basic info you need I guess. I wrote a wiki about how to do this over at randr site.

thanks for the update! I've red the whole article but don't get it.

If I start a table everything works fine. But in pinballx only the real dmd of pinball ball machines (rom  in visual pinball 9 are showing in attract mode. Pinballx don't show anything for 10.x tables. but when I start a table the dmd works fine.

Also the "No DMD" video isn't showing at all

Ok - I try to tell you this in another way. I run with DMD videos for tables that have a normal DMD while you play. For older tables, I just show a picture.

So, my schema is that I've told pinballx to use description as the "identifier".

So, a table might be whatever.vpx - but the description is attack_from_mars_dmd - so, this means that I need to either have a video named attack_from_mars_dmd.avi in "Real DMD Color Videos" or a picture in "Real DMD Color Images" that is named attack_from_mars_dvd.png it will be displayed while in attract mode. The don't remember the exact format for the videos. I just downloaded them from ftp @ gameex.com ( payed service ).

I'll give you a better example if you still can't get this working - right now I'm away from my cab, so, I don't trust my memory :)

well this is driving me mad. I got everything working including pinballfx2 dmd on real dmd with dmdext.

i copied the ini and dll files to the pinmame folder and changed the ini just like in the article (thx)

but the videos just aint showing in pinballx no video at all, even the ones that have no video at all and should be showing the "no video" video ...

if I use pinmame in pinballx settings, the real dmd rom shows instantly ... so what do I do wrong?

Hmm. You are sure that you have dmddevice.dll from lucky1 in pinballx folder ? I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean by ...

"if I use pinmame in pinballx settings, the real dmd rom shows instantly ... so what do I do wrong?"

I'll see if I can make a screenshot of my settings so it all becomes clearer soon.

What he means is, in PinballX you can configure it to use VPinMAME to load the actual ROM for the table instead of a picture or video (this is the setting I use with my pinDMD3, not sure why more people don't use it).  It makes sense that this is working for him because it relies on something external to PinballX to display the DMD.  I'm going with Thalamus's theory, the dmddevice.dll is probably missing from the PinballX folder.

Ah, thank you for clarifying. I've tried that feature a long time ago, but, didn't like it.

Ok. I've made a archive of the files that is needed and where to put them. I hope and believe that if you replace the files in this archive with the ones in you xdmd, pinballx and vpinmame folder you should be up and running. There is also a example of my 'visual pinball.xml' that I use as the default for VPX tables.

oh! Yes! that did the trick. In the link you send previously not all files were the same as the instruction (some  files where missing, I thin due to an update). The download provided the right files, still not working but that was an easy fix, changed the com port in the ini file and for the first time I see dmd videos in pinballx... yeah

thank you so much for all the support and the time you spend on this.  :otvclap:

one small thing just doesn't work I think due the fact that i changed to much stuff to get it working. maybe you can help (we've come some far together, don't give up on me right now ;-) ) if a table has no video the standard video should kick in (pinballx standard videos) but the only thing he shows is some static dust on the dmd (I seems like a shadow of the pinballx standard video but I'm not sure) I don't know which video he calls when there is no table video and I think the file he is calling isn't working like it should be)

last suggestion?

Happy to hear that you finally resolved it. Not at home right now, and trusting my brain for filenames is kind of hopeless ;-) I'll see this afternoon if I figure it out. I simply don't have any tables that doesn't have a video so it is kind of not a issue for me. But, yeah, I should be able to find that out for you.

oh I'm sure it's a filename issue after everything else works... I changed a lot and for me the filename of the default files are correct but I can't see the problem.. again thx

For me the file is "C:\PinballX\Media\Videos\No Real DMD Color.mp4"

It is a video that Fren created over at Randr site. I liked it so I renamed the original which has the same name only its a *.avi file.
Hope this helps.

Well then it's all fixed. The file was not showing at al but after your update it was showing really messy. I deleted this file and changed it for another one and it just works great. Thank you so much!!

I'm not "all the way there" yet (for some reason some mp4s aren't working) but this was the *only* thing that got me to the point where anything was showing in pinball on the PinDMD 3. UltraDMD is still a bust, but at least I have something to work with...instead of rudeness about my purchase :/

Some *.mp4 not working ? Sounds like some are ? ... if so, it kind of points to that there is a codec problem. You could head over to randr site for my custom made dmd videos, try those for the tables that doesn't work. I'm not saying my dmd videos are the greatest, but, I guess they actually are better than black screens ;) You at least get to verify that it is codec related that way.

http://vpinball.com/...eal-dmd-videos/

For the UltraDMD. From the top of my head ... I believe you should try to open a cmd prompt as administrator - head over to the folder UltraDMD folder and then run Ultradmd with the /c parameter.

cd \visual_pinball\xdmd

ultradmd /c

( not on my pin, taken all from memory ... so, I might be a bit off on this )

Actually it was size related. Scaling wasn't working, after I did some shrinking, and a luminance up pass, on the default video I want to show, it showed up great. I've not gotten to ultradmd, fighting a new battle, trying not to kill "PuP"pies :)
