This is a contest to determine a new default table for Visual Pinball 9!

The rules:

1. outerwall object must remain.
2. you can change/delete/move control points and objects already on the table.
3. Script length would be <201 lines maximum
4. sound and image manager can be modified provided entire table is <500KB and all sounds/images are public domain.

A default table with the rules has been attached.

The Prize:

The honor of submitting the default table for VP9.

This contest will be conducted by destruk. Direct any questions to him.

The default layout is terrible, it's the first thing I deleted when I first created an original and something I encourage all original table builders to do. Besides this is totally counter-intuitive to the prize being offered? That said I could use rule 2 and just delete most of the outer wall object creating an outer cabinet wall or some such which would only retain the name of the wall. Also rule 4 is way too restrictive, I know of very few if any released tables that would pass rule 4. Count me out until you think this thing out a bit better.

If you just wanted a better default table layout, with better flipper sizes and settings then why didn't you say so in the first place?

I actually like this idea, even though it doesn't even slightly resemble Noah's contest thread. smile.gif

So, we are trying to create a new default table for VP9..... Meaning that when you open the editor of VP9 and click on "new" this is the table that will load into the editor?

Is this independent from the original tables building contest then?

After rereading the contest threads.... It looks like we will have several contests and this contest isn't linked to Noah's Original table contest.

Brian, I have my default table entry finished. How do I send you a copy of it?

My email address is destruk @ comcast.net

The reason the outer wall needs to stay, in some form, is that it is a unique object that can't be recreated in the editor. You can copy and paste it, but there isn't a button to press to put it back if it is deleted and the table is saved/vp closed to clear the undo buffer. Someone might want to use an outerwall.

I'd like to add that I'm hoping this can be decided by the time the next revision of VP is ready - possibly 1-2 months as an early estimate.

Wow!!!! Script length only 200 lines or less????
I might have over 200 "END IF" lines in my code.
I will have to go back to "Basic" school and clean up
my code before I can participate. dry.gif

For the default table, very little is needed.

Just a few simple objects and rudimentary functions to demo VP.

You're not making a full table, just a default template for others to build on. The only code needed is for flippers and plungers and nudging and stuff.

I missed the fact that it would be a default template table.
I look forward to seeing all of the entries.

Please try to have your entries in by the 22nd. That will give the community enough time to determine which table they prefer.
