Hey all, aplogies if this has been covered over and over before. If it has... please excuse my novice status re virtual pinball. I have really been loving it but certainly a bit fiddly here and there. Anyway... my question:

On certain tables, most notably Attack From Mars, the sounds of the table (i.e. clicking of flippers) are ridiculously loud but all the background cool effects/noises/voices are really quiet (to the point I can hardly hear them over the clicking noises of table). I have tried tinkering with volume settings in virtual pinball and it helps a little but the tables are nothing like other ones I have played where all sounds are really nicely balanced (i.e. Simpsons). Is there any way I can manually balance this stuff? Is getting on my nerves something chronic! smile.gif I hope I make sense.

Thanks for any help here. BTW I am using v8 of virtual pinball not v9... should I be using v9?? What are the advantages/disadvantages in a nutshell? Cheers!

With VP9 you can probably export the sounds from sound manager, load a sound editor like goldwave or audacity, change the sound volume, resave and reimport. Or you can increase the volume of the rom to compensate by pressing end, then 8 or 9, and end again. You generally want to run vp9 tables in vp9 and vp8 tables in vp8, unless you are editing the table itself to work with the other version, in which case they would be interchangeable. Short list of advantages to vp8 - more available tables, wider compatibility with other video card configurations, overlapping emreel transparency, colored slingshots. Short list of disadvantages of VP8 - unable to rotate the display within the software, unable to scale tables, worse physics engine, slower rendering of complex overlays, more random editor crashes when editing tables, fewer available graphical effects and capabilities. If you have a single display setup, I'd still recommend using vp6, 7, or 8 - take your pick. If you have a cabinet machine or dual displays or 3 displays, I'd recommend vp6 or vp9.

destruk actually you can make colored slingshots in vp9 too! I have a demo up here listing just how to do that but for colored slings in VP9 just pick a color write down the three numbers on the left Hue, Sat, Lum. now on your sling shot with the height of 26 use any color. for the next higher slingshot rubber (height 28 go up 10 to 20 more on your LUM, for the next sling do the same thing. continue with this until you are done. see here is my master table with a few different colors. So many colors so little time

HI,

I have exactly the same problem with VP9 VpinMAME tables: "Circus Voltaire", "Dracula", "Medieval Madness"(both versions: by Megapin and jpsalas!), "Roadshow", "Scaed Stiff" (normal and reduced)
when others like "Centaur", "Twilight Zone", "Funhouse", "Roller Coaster", "Ripley's believe it or not" sounds nice and balanced, as you said.
Is there something wrong with my computer settings (or sth) or everybody has the same problem?

Just adjust rom volume as instructed above. Or does not help?

If you are unsure on how to raise the volume on those tables, look at the instructions provided at this link:

Yeah, all those mentioned tables do have a quite low default ROM volume - and they should all handle the same: END to open the coin door, then... erm... I believe it was 8 and 9 to adjust the volume.

The Data East tables are problem tables as they dont have the volume tied in with the DMD, phantom of the opera being a major pain, great table but you cannot hear the music for toffee which is a real shame. But on the DE tables is the volume still tied to the ROM for the table itself?? If so, couldnt this be hacked to increase the default volume?

Per definition, probably. However, knowing nothing about ROM hacking, I could only guess that the process would be either very difficult or just simply aggravating. Can someone prove me wrong? Like Gaston said in the other thread, right now, you could only use the MAME menu.

Hm. I haven't played POTO in a while. Guess I'll have to fire it up again.
