Some tables take a pretty good jolt to do anything noticeable, nudging is a matter of gaining a little bit of control for just the briefest moment, and twice is usually a wasted effort, and loss of control, you either timed it or you didn't.
What it is not, is a method of playing a modern pin, as all standard ball delineating elements are taking over that control by design. I have played tables that nudging was mostly ineffective, or even counter-productive, others where it was just too difficult to get any helpful results from nudging, but that can be chalked up to (in)experience on that machine, perhaps.
In my experience, nudging pops or slings contacts on modern pins is just to unpredictable, but I still give it a shot on the bottom of clusters if the ball is high, just to try to keep in in the cluster longer, and it works then, if the ball is high.
Nudging rails, and lanes, especially the tops is the exception to this way of reason, if your style is to interact at all by nudging, this is gameplay and primary control at that point.
I have played tables that I have relocated by nudging without a tilt, and tables that have tilted at any ball delineating force. It's best to cease and desist at that point.
Nudging in
VP has never been real good, but it has only gotten worse.
