So it has taken a while, but I finally found a way to mount the accelerometer PCBA in my cab so that the DOF solenoids don't cause it to "false nudge" every-time a solenoid is activated. In fact, it works so good now, I can run a "dead zone" setting of "0" in order to get the best possible nudging. So in short, the nudging feature now works incredibly well and likely about as good as it can, so I wanted to pass along how I did it.

I purchased these two items from Ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/...bgAAOSw0TxZZXNv

http://www.ebay.com/...GMAAOSwrklU9Tcf

So here is what I did:

  1. Stick the the gel pad to the cabinet where you intend to mount you accelerometer PCBA.
  2. Stick 4 foam squares to the gel pad.
  3. Apply contact cement to the top of the 4 foam pads.
  4. Stick a 1/2 " block of wood of slightly larger size than the PCBA to the foam squares.
  5. Screw the PCBA down to the block of wood.

The PCBA should now be nearly totally resistant to the solenoids activating. I also ensure that the various wires going into the PCBA where hung in such a way that they are not "biasing" down the PCBA as to cause false nudges. Also setting MAX gain to 125-150 for both X and Y seems to be about the right settings.

Here is a drawing:

Hope this helps some folks out with their nudging issues. :)

Sweet. Thank you I have been struggling with this issue for ever! I tried rubber pads on the bottom of the nudge sensor but never thought of a gel pad great idea! Ordering mine right now! Thank you!

Just in time for my rebuild ... well, now I need to wait for US shipments ...

But, thank you - need to test this out !

I did a similar thing.  The latest solution is relatively simple compared to earlier iterations.  I got it off the bottom floor that the shaker motor is screwed to - it was the motor that was causing me problems, not the solenoids...  The kl25z is mounted on a 1x3" pine that spans the cab, just under the playfield monitor.  Loosley strapped down with zipties on top of some foam pieces.

Found a pic of the guts for clarity.  Solenoids all at the back of the cab also on 1x3" pine.  kl25z up front, doesn't sense it when they pop.  The contactors are closer but it doesn't sense those either.

I want to update and give a huge thank you to wrd1972 for providing this information. I just recently completed ( if there is such a thing ) my cab and in the same process I ordered and applied his suggested solution. I must say, it is a huge difference. I've added a flipper fidelity sub that isn't located that far from zeb' nudge sensor and even from start I could use my old settings ... un-tweaked and get a very good result. I've added a tilt bob so analogue nudge tilt is something I've turned off.

Final adjustments will have to wait until my wife is out of the house.

Thanks again !!

Very Nice.

What settings values are folks using for their accelerometers now?

Settings from one cabinet to another isn't going to help you much. Reading first article by wrd1972. He is using very low dead-zone and quite high x and y gains. There are several reasons why I say it is not going to help you. Weight of the cab, floor it is standing on and not forgetting to mention slight differences in the hardware.

I was a complete idiot and broke my original nudge unit. The new one I got needed new adjustments compared to the old one. I can tell you my settings, 40 x-gain, 60 y-gain and a dead-zone of 1. But, as I said it is not going to help you much.

What IS working - is the tip from wrd1972. Simply a game-changer for me.

Just want to say it works! I ordered a new nudge and pinball shooter from zebs version 2 and mounted it as you suggested no more false nudging! Woo hoo! Thank you!
