It's over complicated chas. I'm sure it works, but is not going to help a bit in the opposing views of whether a full install kit is absolutely needed or not, other that to convince most on the fence that it absolutely is.

I can install everything to get VP and FP working in my sleep, and it's really not complicated at all. Just run a package with the installer, and add VP9 to it.
For VPM just download it there and run it.

The kicker though is that as much as you said, if you are going to say it in that fashion, it is not enough. You failed to mention the instructions for installing the .vbs files, and then there are the now standard fonts.

If you are going to use the number 4 because you don't want to write the word for (for one of many examples), then no, absolutely not. Leave it to someone else.

Wouldn't you be embarrassed if someone was to ask you which installation was installation 4?

Dear chas,

I'm sure it was helpful for one or the other. Thanks for your well-intentioned post. I think that's the right spirit. Keep up that!

Now (as you still seem to be serious) please let me try to clarify/explain:

I still didn't see a lot of frustation in the forum.

I have to say that if I had problems installing VP, your post would have confused me very much. I don't speak English as first/native language. Your use of English language (only clauses, then the ....., the use of single characters and numbers instead of whole words, the appearance of your post and what else) doesn't let me translate and understand much and wouldn't make me willing to try at all. I can't/don't speak for others here, but that's my opinion. Sorry. Please don't worry! I know/understand that you post was well-meant and I appreciate that very much and I want to let you know that, even if we had and made some fun in this thread.
>>>>thanks for your opinion..... language barrier.....ill try to be more clear.....>>>>>yogi....I still didn't see a lot of frustation in the forum<<<<chas......ahh, come on Yogi....i said it before.....their is fustration.....asking but getting little help..... questions not getting answered.....yogi, i have been watching for awhile.....members are fustrated especially with vp9.....after looking this over, it looks like they might have the folders, pinmame 2.2 and scripts installed but maybe having trouble installing the vp905/907exec to desktop..... maybe they are trying to play the zipped vp9/FP/FS......some vp9 might play zipped.....most vp9 and all FP and FS need to be extracted.....extracted vp9 and FS must be played through the 905/907 desktop exec.....zipped FP and zipped FS will not play.....they need to open/extracted.....rar files need a special tool to open/unrar.....thats how it works for me.....maybe pinmame 2.2 configs are not right......i dunno......i have been watching the fustration for awhile.....

I know what it is. But you are not being charged by the letter anymore.

If you are trying to do documentation, or instruction, then yes, you are going to be graded on punctuation.

I really hope this isn't directed at me...

I give my fair share of support and the SEARCH feature will often yield the same answers being asked over and over.

I don't 'Twitter', but if I did, you'd know I stay busy pretty much all day with everything I do either on the site, gathering resources, and/or contacting our next guests.

I believe a larger problem than the 'uesless 1line response', is TOO MUCH information, even after the support was given and a, "Thank you, that worked." response has already been submitted.

There is a comprehensive guide that Yogiholzer, HGPinball, and many others have contributed to over the years, and it's more than adequate for 90% of support questions that come up. Everything else can be found in a search.

I mean, I'm sorry if you feel I'm being too direct, but I don't feel your support posts have been all that supportive or accurate. It would probably be best if you let us handle it for a while until you get more familiar yourself.

Thank you for the great effort, though.

Start quotes with just quote and end them with /quote. You do need the brackets, but I did not want to create a quote.

The forum leaders are great chas. There may be issues with getting VP9 to work, but anything more than a one liner on how to install it is a waste of words. Mr. Machine got his answer. I don't know if he has problems dragging the file into the folder, or getting it to work. The best installer in the world is not going to make it work, it's just going to install it. I don't know of any question that has not been answered, and I can't think of one question that has not been answered a few times. Some many times. Noah, the Admin. here has bent himself over backwards answering the same questions, and he will answer them again. But when a question is answered what more can we do?

I like you chas. I think you really want to help and we obviously have the same love of pinball. I don't know how old you are and it does not matter a bit, but I do wonder. Most of us here if you are not aware, are (pause to think)...(nothing) older than typical gamers, well educated, creative, technical, and some of us here enjoy each other as much as pinball. If we thought we were ignoring anyone that needed help because we did not have the problem ourselves, we would be embarrassed.

Installing VP9 is as simple as putting it into the VP8 folder. Writing a book, or making a video is not going to make it any easier than that.

What do you think the forum leaders here should do when they give that answer and someone says they need more? THERE IS NO MORE.

We are standing by. Mr.Machine (or someone else) may eventually drag the execute into the working folder he says he has, or they may wait for an install kit. Either way they are going to have the same problems if they have certain hardware or configurations. The forum leaders will then give them detailed information, and it will probably be very simple as well. Hitch the horse to the cart and then you can go. We said how to hitch up, we will be just as quick to get you going.

EDIT: Sorry Noah, I did not see you aboard and you are obviously a faster typer.

you seem to type like irc generation, but your pc knowledge is like you are 70 year old grandma, how old r u, what is your background?

I'm asking because in lot's of your posts there is a whole lot of miss-consumptions and lot's of errors, but then again you try to explain a lot's of triviality's like how to create folder, extract files, ...

1. all tables have to be extracted from zip to run them - nobody never asked this question and made problem about this - so i don't see why it is such a big deal to you, it is the same for vp6 vp7 vp8 vp9 and fp
2. you say "some vp9 tables might play zipped.....zipped table folders will not work in the vp8.1" - where did you found this??? no table will play zipped!!!
3. some files have to be zipped like rom files
4. most of the other files like music, scripts are also not zipped, but installation manual says clearly what should be zipped
5. you spend 90% of the time in your tutorial clicking here and there - hey, it is not tutorial, it is clicking manual, you can't write any tutorial for people that don't know how to create folder move files or copy files, or extract them from zip or rar - these are elementary things, if somebody doesn't know any of these things there are other tutorials to that, or you can ask here - how do i create folder, how do i open rar file, but you don't ask why vp9 doesn't run if your problem is that you don't know how to unzip rar, and specially you don't write tutorial how to install vp9 that is really tutorial how to extract files and how to click here and there
6. throughout your tutorial it is not clear what r u trying to explain, except that all other tutorials are shit and your is the right one???

So...

How much for the attitude? Is that free, too? Seems the only one getting frustrated is you, at least up until your last two posts ... now I'M getting frustrated.

All support is provided around here for free. Everything on the site is free!

Your 'experience' is dubious, at best, so let the experts handle it, okay? You cannot run tables zipped, unless you open them in an archive program and double-click from there, which I would never suggest doing.

Though this is just getting redundant. Check this out, and that should be the end of this senseless banter...

Tutorials

A new menu system is also under way, and it should be done soon, along with a lot of other stuff in the works for the month of May. I don't poll for feedback just for kicks.

Thank you.

Note: Profanity is only acceptable in the Big Bang Bar forum, so please watch your language, guys.

Read this in the Installation Guide:

Remarks:
1. The installation will result in the parallel installation of two versions of Visual Pinball: VP8 and VP9. While VP9 includes many enhancements, and almost all new tables are being created and have to be played with this version, there's still a huge amount of tables available which were created and have to be played with VP8, an older 'mature' VP version. Generally, for a proper function you have to make sure to use the correct VP version with each table you download, either VP8 or VP9. See further explanations throughout this manual.

I think that says it all: just follow the instructions and you're there!

I am open for any recommendations to enhance the comprehensibility of the Installation Guide. I don't mind "negative" feedback if it is constructive... biggrin.gif

a few members are asking what is the difference with v8 and v9 and does it matter where it is installed.
v8 and v9 install the same.
i experimented with different install locations with v8 and v9 over 3years ago in 08.
there were several ways to install the v8 and v9 desktop execs.
i found installing the v8 and v9 execs outside of the vp installer folders in C/programfiles in the same location as the vp installer folders worked best.

maybe others on the www might have some trouble translating.
there are some fair translators.
i dont know if i would rely on a translator for important documents.

is the vp install guide in other languages?

Open it, click on a flag and take a look yourself! In the meantime we have it in English, German, French, Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish (partly under construction), and all versions are at about the same revision level.

Blur, i wait for the forum leaders to respond with a solution.

I'm asking because in lot's of your posts there is a whole lot of miss-consumptions and lot's of errors, but then again you try to explain a lot's of triviality's like how to create folder, extract files, ..

false. alot of vp6 and vp8 will play zipped.
just cannot use the editor.
plays as is.
i know because when i first started with vp in 07 i played vp6/ vp8 and some vp9 in 09 zipped untill i decided to install the vp8/vp9 desktop execs i 2010.
i sat down and worked on it for days untill i got it way back in 2010.
then i watched the posts for months.
alot of members were still asking how to install vp8/vp9.
you guys were not coming up with solutions.
members were still posting.
2. you say "some vp9 tables might play zipped.....zipped table folders will not work in the vp8.1" - where did you found this??? no table will play zipped!!!>>>>>>>>>>>>>
false..... see above........i played zipped vp8 zipped untill i learned how to install vp8/vp9....

i never said that roms need to be extracted.
you must have got that from another post from someone else.

the posts stopped

B, i never said the tuorials were shit.
i think the installer guide is a little more difficult than necessary.
i spent some time on this in 09 or 2010.
i use the browse to install.
first i install the vp installer folders in C/program files.
then pinmame and do the configs into the same location.
then the vp8/vp9 desktop execs in the same local again.
right click on the silver ball,,,send to desktop for the shortcut.
then load all the stuff into the proper folders.
bam dude, im done and playing PB.
for some reason members were still posting back.
at the time there was no tutorial on how to install the vp8/vp9 desktop execs and is still no tutorial to solve pop up errors and video problems.
remember some are not as PC savey as some of you.
way back in 2010 the members were still asking.
i stepped up and gave instructions.
it worked.
the posts stopped.
the next time if i have a solution for something i will send it to Noah for approval.
if my posts did not work i would not have posted.
ive seen plenty of other suggestions.
just trying to help.
i step up if i have a solution.

how old am i?
older thyan alot of you.
well, i played the EM tables when 1 play was 10cents 5ball.
25cents for 3plays 5ball.
got older, went to work and school a little.
did not play PB too much any more.
by that time PB started disappearing from the local bowling alley and arcades.
it was still around but more diffucult to find here.
nice to see PB is still alive in some parts.
