Welcome to the forum.

The "script" for the Theatre of Magic VPX table is inside the table file. Run the VPX Editor to see it.

IIRC, you click the button the left that looks like a document. Normally, you don't mess with it unless you know what you are going (as that would break it).

As for the ROMs ... yes you need them. This is a section from my Primary VPX Notes (see the lines in Bold):

Required ROMs for your installed VPX-Tables go in C:\Visual Pinball\VPinMAME\roms\ folder. Leave them zipped-up.
VPinMame (mine is v3.5) should have been installed and initially configured by main VPX installer.
- You can run the vPinMame Setup-and-Configurator ( C:\Visual Pinball\vpinmame\setup.exe ) to just "check things" (like your Paths to rom-files).
- Defaults for all tables also. Don't mess with other things if you don't know what you are doing.
- - Since I pre-vet and Verify all my ROM-sets as "good" ... in a Tables F1 vPinMAME Options, I Enable "Ignore ROM CRC errors"
- - - AFAIK, this allows "patched roms" and is generally recommended.
- - Other initial Defaults (for all Tables) are Use Sound, Use Samples, Cabinet-Mode, and Show-DMD
- - - Specific Tables needing otherwise, you change individually. Either from here, or while in VPX with the F1 key.
- - - - Like ToM, usually eventually needs "Skip Pinball Startup Tests"
- - - - Like Tables with Colorized DMDs, needs "Use External DMD (dll)" and/or "Colorize DMD (4 colors)"
- You can click Test-button and scroll the long-list of vPinMame-known ones.
- - An X appears next the ones that are actually installed (meaning, having its rom.zip in place)
- - You can select one and click Check-ROMs and it will show the individual files inside and their State/status (all in the set should report "OK")
- - Normally, ALL the roms is the set should read perfectly OK for it to work 100% properly in the Table.
- You can also use this program and procedures with knowingly missing ROM-sets
- - So you know what rom.zip file (and version) it is expecting (and you are looking for online).
Leave your rom-set files zipped-up.

I know this is an old thread, but figured I'd respond with the steps to resolve this issue just in case someone else stumbles on this like I did.  Press F1 to bring up the ROM options menu, and then select "Skip ROM startup tests".

Efectivamente! Es eso!!!

Translation:

Thanks Tesla, how can I post in English on the forum while writing in French? I posted a couple of days ago, translating it on Google and then copying and pasting, but it wasn't clean because it was highlighted!

1. So I edited it because I've since found the option to display the script and not start the table immediately.

But I edited it in French, and now I've posted in French again :stunned:

2. Is there a built-in translator in the forum?

3. I'm sorry, my English is so bad I speak English like a Spanish cow... It's all that I can't write or say Hi because I'm 63 years old.

4. However, I'm curious to know the file editor you mentioned earlier. Thank you very much!

-----------------------------

Yeah, English is better so WE don't have to Translate it ourselves.

1. Good.

2. Not that I know of. It was probably just your browser?

3. Many of us here are about the same age. Many of us grew-up in the 70's and 80's ... playing Pinball as teenagers.

4. The VPX program that you are using to play the Tables, is actually an Editor.

Hello Tesla, I am happy to learn that many of us are my age, so I am less alone and more in the wind. And for reading translation I use the Brave browser on a Chromium basis and to write, I don't know if there is better but I open another window and I type translation with Google then I write in this window I copy and paste to post but the problem is that the text remains highlighted. And thank you for clarifying to me that each different version of Vpinball is an editor, I thought there was yet another editing software, so it's simpler. Thank you for your help. Kind regards, Have a nice weekend !

PS Ah that's it, I just understood that you just had to click on the copy button in the translation result box to no longer have the highlighting...youth returns!

Well, this is frustrating. The standalone VPX for Linux doesn't support the dialog windows like the ROM settings editor. Does any kind fellow happen to have a pinmame CFG or INI with the edit applied?

edit: For anyone else with this problem, setting cheat=1 in the pinmame ini for this rom solves it.
