Where can you get these borders and how do you get them to work?
HLSL is pretty cool... you can also use it on the raster games... to imitate a vintage display.

Very nice! I have a similar Dell LCD display that I use in my arcade setup. I don't have a cabinet. My display is a model 1907FPc, 19" TFT with a 5:4 aspect ratio. It looks like the difference is that my display has a black bezel. But the stand looks identical. The base of the stand can swivel left and right. The mount for the display can slide up and down on the stand. This mount is not constructed in a way where you can rotate the screen into portrait orientation. But it is possible to disassemble the mount where the display connects to the stand, orient the mounting plate 90 deg, and then reassemble the mount. The screen now attaches to the stand in portrait orientation allowing for full screen use on vertical games without black bars or the need for emulated bezel artwork (Pac-man, Donkey Kong, etc.). It's not a perfectly engineered solution as two of the screws are a little loose on that mounting plate, but it holds very well and is fully functional.
I know its perfect, but it could be cool to have the screen and the panel that it is mounted on installed in the cabinet in a way that you could easily rotate it for vertical games to better reproduce the size of the image on the real machine. Secure the panel to the cabinet with a set of slide or cam fasteners or something. But, well, like those cabinet projects with rotatable or modular control panels, maybe it is all just too kludgy.
Congrats! It is getting harder to find these displays with the older aspect ratios. Widescreens just don't cut it.

I finally got around to figuring out how to run clrmamepro to update my rom-sets to 0.151 and I must say, the HLSL effect is stunning to see it in person, even on the raster graphics games. Now I just need to upgrade my mame cab pc to one that runs a graphic accelerator since HLSL doesn't seem to render on Intel integrated graphics chips. Thanks for posting this Kristian!
Best Regards,
Todd.

I've been trying to run MAME with HLSL enabled and Mameui64 0.151 (Nov. 4 2013) crashes to desktop for some reason. On my notebook with integrated GTX 260M - 1Gb RAM it runs fine, but on the system I'm testing with a GT 240 - 1Gb ram it crashes to desktop. I'm using the 331.82 whql driver for Windows 7 64bit from nvidia so I don't think it's driver related... any clues??

I found the solution. It seems that HLSL in MAME relies on DX9 libraries, which I understand are not included in Windows 7. My notebook is an Asus gaming notebook running Windows 7 64bit which I've played many DX9 games on, so at some point DX9 libraries were installed by some game, which explains why HLSL worked here, but not on my MAME dev system, and not on my MAME game system.
So, If you have a clean install of Windows 7 that you want to run MAME with HLSL on, you will need to download, unpack, and then install (using DXSETUP.EXE) the DX9 libraries from Microsoft at the following link:

Good Luck!
Best Regards,
Todd.

I've been out of the loop lately again.
Bought two "hobbyist cars", Porsche 928 S4 (1990) and Jaguar XK8 (2007) and I've been busy driving and having fun with 'em.![]()
Anything new for MAME lately? I played Star Wars Trilogy (SEGA) in a local amusement park just last week (with my 4-year old son). He loves everything Star Wars. Dad has nothing to do with it of course. ![]()

Wow... I gotta check things out.
Too bad most new tables are those cabinet-only versions. No one makes the desktop tables anymore?
Actually, just change the "rotation" setting on the backdrop to 360 and using the x/y position and scaling options from a similar sized/similar era table and it should be quite playable in desktop mode.
Regards,
Todd.

Ive DL'D and extracted the Highscoredat zip that the link pointed to into the mame folder as suggested by the read me file, and I have ticked Enable High scores in settings, but it doesn't save the high scores. Ive tried several roms that I could save High scores with previous build. Any suggestions ?
