I should add just for clarification that this solution does not power the TV off.  It only handles the auto power on of the TV.  It could be done with a reversing relay and another 12v power supply but for powering everything off, I personally use a "smart" power strip.  The one I use is an APC model and it's only $20.  Here is the one I use and I'm very happy with it:

HI Guys,

This device works perfect to turn Standby power to the TVs. PC is in Master and TVs in Slaves. It also turns them off great also, when the PC is shutdown. Only $33AUD

However, it does not turn on the TV's  to get picture.

Big Boss

I like the IR repeater and Winlirc option , have you got any instructions on this and a compatible device. I have seen a few on ebay quite cheap. Would you need 1 repeater per TV or could you send 2 IR codes one after the other?

Thanks,

Webster.

My new Vizio (pf) does not power on automatically when there is power. I'm using a smart strip but the only TV that turn on is the crapo TV Im using in the backglass. The Vizio doesn't.

Dang it! :thmbdn:

Oh and holding the power down works but it start the TV with system TV info ... so It isn't a solution.

I will have to think of something.

Any ideas guys? Apart from using a Delay Timer like in this post.

The frm01 timer delay option in mode 3 seems like the only option for the new vizio's. I'm gunna try a homemade circuit with a 555 timer, should be able to make for under $2.

I did create a nice cheap timer circuit out of scrap parts (556 Timer Chip), but only really need it for my DMD display which is actually an old 15" wide screen.  Both the new Samsung models I got for the Main and BG both support the Power on feature when power is applied with a smart power strip, so no need to rig up anything to trigger the power buttons on them or use remotes.

So if you are looking at a display, I highly recommend the below for price, options and quality for standard 1920x1080 displays, also nice to have a Smart TV for the BG, so you can use it for more things than just a pinball display.  I love to put the cable tv on it via wifi with the TWC app (cable without needed a cable box, only avaliable on certain Samsung models), also nice to Tunein and other radio apps while you are working on your pins...

Both Samsungs are super light weight for their size and smallest in their class for bezel size, thus no decasing...

In my Widebody WPC cab I was able to fit:

Main #1

Samsung - 32" Class
LED - 1080p - Smart
UN32J5500AFXZA
HT 16.7"
Depth 2.6"
Width 28.4"
Weight 10.4 lbs
$279.99

BG #2

Samsung - 43" Class
LED - 1080p - Smart
UN43J5200AFXZA
HT 22.3"
Width 38.8"
Depth 2.3"
Weight 16.5 lbs

$378.99

DMD #3

Coby - 15"

Ebay - Used $25

Just put one in my cabinet to fire up my westinghouse playfield tv.  I used mode 3 with a 10 second delay, 5 second relay on and it works perfectly!  Sure is nice not to have to push a second button after starting the cabinet up.  Thanks!  :otvclap:

5 seconds on could cause an issue with some TV's.  It's like holding the power button on for 5 seconds, should only need a 0.5-1.0 sec toggle.  If I hold my power for more than 2-3 seconds, it will change the source and then cause issues.  Just a note for others that have my issue, just setup your times to simulate how ever you would normally have do to power unit on, mine also does require about 10 secs of power before it will allow me to toggle the power button, so I have mine at 11 secs delay and 0.5 sec on.

For anyone with a Palsonic TV, don't bother with the permanent holding in of the power button trick..... It powers on... then powers off... then powers on.... then powers off... then pow.... well, you get the idea. ;)

Recently I tried going into the service menu of the tv, and by changing the power state to last I finally have it powering on automatically.

The power function was set to off initially, setting to on didnt work, but last works just fine

Getting into the service menu - google search the manufacturer and a bit of trial and error.

And being careful in the service menu, there are a great many adjustments and certainly some that could cause issues

fwiw my knock off tv with a samsung panel used (on remote)     Source - 2 - 5 - 8 - 0

Yep, I thought about making it shorter, but the default 5 seconds worked fine on the westinghouse so I didn't bother.  Good call to mention it for others who might experience a problem with holding the button for that long though.

Here's a demo of a 556 Timer I custom made for the delay on timer, it is fully adjustable and will only fire the monitor power once shortly after power up...
