Balls per Game Adjustment - Williams System 3 and 4

Procedure to adjust number of balls per game on Williams System 3 and 4 tables

Posted by ta2686 on Apr 16 2013 07:13 PM
Here is the procedure to set number of balls on Williams System 3 and System 4 tables (tables produced prior to Flash). Please note that there will be accompanying documents which will have dip switch settings that this post will refer to. These are scanned from the Williams manual for a System 4 machine (Phoenix) but the other machines will follow the same procedure.

1. Press 9 on the keyboard. The displays should go blank.

2. Press F6 to bring up the dip switch menu. You should see a series of dip switches. We will concern ourselves with the function and data switches for the purpose of this post.

3. To select the function for the number of balls, set the function switches, which are the top 8 switches in the menu, to checked (on) so that 18 is selected. Please refer to chart 1 picture for dip switch info.

4. To change the number of balls, set the data switches, which are the bottom 8 switches in the menu, to checked (on) for the value you wish to set it to. Please refer to chart 2 picture for dip switch info. The value can be set to the following:

13 – 3 balls, credit given for special
23 – 3 balls, extra ball given for special
43 – 3 balls, 50,000 points given for special
15 – 5 balls, credit given for special
25 – 5 balls, extra ball given for special
45 – 5 balls, 50,000 points given for special

5. Click OK to exit dip switch menu.

6. Press the 0(zero) key to make the change. (NOTE: This key is currently undocumented in the F2 menu, but it is enabled and does work in Pinmame according to my tests)

7. Press F3 to exit the adjustment menu and reset the table.

This procedure should work on the following tables:

Williams System 3 tables:
Hot Tip, Lucky Seven, Contact, World Cup, Disco Fever^

Williams System 4 tables:
Pokerino*, Phoenix

* - Eala Dubh Sidhe’s version of Pokerino does not follow this procedure, instead he has a menu at the bottom of the screen showing which keys to press to make those adjustments.

^ - The version of this table done by Germax (Gerhard & Friends) uses the incorrect vbs script. It uses the s6.vbs script instead of the s4.vbs script. The version of this table done by TAB does use the correct script. To correct the Germax table script, edit the script to change the value of the index to say i=1, which will select the s4 script. Currently the value is set to 2, which is for the s6 script.
