PINBALL ACTION (Tehkan 1985)
Recreation of this beloved 80s multi-table arcade videogame, by JBBolcato.

Includes regeneration of all artwork and audio, plus coding logic in VS script.
Game is complete with all 4 tables (1 main and 3 warp Red Green Blue ones).
This is half height pinball (4/3 vertical video game screen), so for full size cabinets, expect some space at the top!
Also, all the scores and high scores are embedded in the bottom/apron part of the pinball, so the backglass is just for looking pretty - a simple one is included.
Check the media folders for additional goodies like dmd video and topper/wheels.
See rules for details on how to play. (pdf, or ingame/Press R or D)
Enjoy!

Tested only in desktop mode, and cabinet mode 3 screens.
Feedback welcome! This is my very first table, so plenty to learn still.

Many thanks to JPSalas for his advice and support, plus all the amazing Vpinball community for its endless supply of cool tables, programs and tutorials to welcome newbies like me.

Congratulations on the table. Show. It would also be interesting to have the +18 Super PinballAction version

Thanks!

Yes, looking for my next project - I guess that could be one of them.

Never played SuperPinball in the arcade myself though, so no quite the same nostalgic attachment as the Tehkan one.

But it looks cool!

If anyone has any other ideas of "pin video game" conversions, mention them here.

Prime candidates could be the PinballDreams/Fantasies/Illusions series on the Amiga & others.

They've been done reasonably well on FuturePinball though.

Pretty cool, thanks for sharing JB.

Played this one many times in late 1980's at Yogi's Arcade by Disneyland.

Always one of my favorites.... Well done and thanks

Very fun table, thanks for building!

Congratulations, excellent work. BUT... yes, there is a but...
I want to play Pinball Action in full width and height, not just some sort of micro image...
My dear friend, you waste 30% of the total screen with the High Scores and images on the bottom. I don't care about the High Scores and images at all... I want to play Pinball Action in the full dimension like in the original and in MAME...
If you fix that, the game will look amazing, and the gameplay will be excellent.
Thank you. I've loved this game for decades, in the original arcades and on PC in MAME.

Thanks for the feedback!

And I agree with you Jomo22, to some extent...

I made a choice of respecting the aspect ratio of the original game to make things simpler for me (remember it's my first table and was complicated enough with those crazy warps!!).

Please note the original arcade game full dimensions were almost square - 224 x 256 pixels; which I chose to up-res and sharpen/redrew at x8 at the exact same ratio to reach 1792 by 2048. Then when you map that playfield bitmap to a full cabinet layout with a 16/9 screen - this reaches 3840 height (enough for 4k). So there is  almost 1800 pixels wasted anyway at the top or bottom, highscores or not. See pic attached...

Unless you redesign/stretch the tables completely to become much taller; which would give a very different feel to it.

Interesting variant/mod I guess!

BTW nothing is blocking you from changing the current pov to be more from uptop, zooming in to crop the highscores/rules out if your screen is not 16/9.

Although you'd lose the highscore initials entering at the end of the game.

I may add an option in v1.2 later on to have the high scores optionally as a popup, instead of being permanent - if people really prefer to zoom and crop?

Anyways, thought I'd explain a little in more detail why I made that choice, and how a Mame 1980s game has to stretch to fit an ultra lengthy pinball cab!!!

Cheers,

JBB

Great!!! I want play it but my cab is broken, so I have now a new incentive to do it. Thanks a lot!!!

Will this run on 10.7 ?  Thanks
