polar explorer taito
Based on the Taito table from 1983 .
Thanks to Carlos Guizzo for all the resources.
Also thanks to 32assassin for making also a VPX version of this table, from were I "borrowed" the wire ramp on the upper floor
I built the table from scratch, as always. In this table I have used some primitives on top of the flippers to gave them a nice shape. The normal VPX flippers are still visible and if you want to change their color or the rubber color then you can do it in the editor, no need to change images.
Also if you prefer black rubbers instead of white, then simply load the table in the editor, press SHIFT CTRL E, sort all the objects by type, select all the rubbers and change their material to Rubber Black. Save the table, and you'll have black rubbers.

What's New in Version 6.0.0 (See full changelog)
- 6.0.0 Updated September 2025
- - Moved LUT to User Options (F12)
- - Added some extra options to the User Options (F12)
- - Updated physics to my latest rev 4.3.1. mostly bouncier rubbers and harder flippers.
- 5.5.0 Updated 14.12.2024
- - New playfield mesh to avoid the ball getting stuck on top of the flippers.
- - Fixed my ball spin control, which were too aggressive, and it killed the ball's acceleration, making the ball too slow, getting stuck on ramps, and also being unable to climb the ramps on many tables.
- 5.0.0 Updated 10.12.2024
- - Updated for VPX8.
- - some graphical changes (playfield mesh with holes, metal wall guides, lights warmer)
- - added a screenshot for scutters file explorer handler
- 4.0.0 Updated 29.8.2022
- - Updated to my VPX7 physics
- - cleaned up and deleted unused graphics & reduced the size of the table
- - Added my VPX7 LUT changer to darker the table (hold down LEFT CTRL while change with RIGHT CTRL). Including GI brightness adjustment. Use the LUT changer together with the day/night slider to give the table the level of darkness you prefer.
- - Updated my mechanical set of sounds to a more "under the glass" sound, as people seem to like those kind of sounds better.
- - Changed the Environment image to enhance a little the object shadows.
- - Made the light inserts warmer, mostly the white lights.
- 3.0.1 Updated 19.12.2020
- - Added a workaround to activate the flippers when coming down from the upper playfield. Thanks wiesshund for the fix.
- 3.0 Updated 11.12.2020
- Updated script & physics:
- - added the arcade physics 3.0
- - new rolling routine that now includes the ball shadow, the ball drop sound from Rothbauer and my ball speed control.
- - Easy change of the ambient lightning: Hold down LeftMagnaSave and with RightMagnaSave it will switch between LUT images, from light to dark, 9 levels, and the selection will be saved for the table.
- - some extra collision sounds and more random hit sounds.
- 2.0.0 Updated 13.12.2019
- - Script changes:
- Added SSF sound and exchanged some mechanical sounds.
- Added new fading lights routine which uses less cpu for the flash objects.
- Added the NVram patch for Taito do Brasil tables by Pmax65, which fixes possible rom errors when quiting the tables during play.
- Enabled fastflips
- - New environment image for better looking metals and for better adjustment of the Night -> Day cycle.
- - New material settings to suit the new environment image.
- - added 3 colorgradeLUT images for normal, saturated and half saturated to better fit your monitor. The default is the normal color.
- - New VPX physics (jp's arcade physics with lower friction and heavier flippers).Changed all the objects in contact with the ball: playfield, rubbers, plastics, metals, flippers, slingshots, bumpers...
- - Extra decorations like a subtile ball shadow and flipper decorations
- 1.0.2 Updated 17.09.2018
- - fixed a ball stuck possibility when shooting for the upper playfield.
- - Added the rules in English to the table info. Thanks Carlos & Bord for the translation.
- 1.0.1 Updated 15.09.2018
- - fixed the upper playfield, now using the solenoid, which actually has a timer. I thought there was something wrong and in version 1.0.0 I disabled it. But there is a timer! Then the solenoid was always working fine :)

Thanks for all your hard work!
Cool looking table thanks
Fantastic update JP. Thanks so much.
hmmm.... am I the only one having a problem with this last batch of 3.0 games released today *(thanks very much, btw)? None of them seem to have art work, just the white frame of the table and parts??
Bugs should be reported in the support topic, as nobody gets informed of what it is written here, not even me
But this is a "bug" introduced in the latest VPX beta 10.7. I'll wait for a fix, since it was a lot of work to make all the changes. The table plays fine under the VPX beta 10.7 though.
Thanks for the table Jp
Love This Table! Thank You JP!
just getting the white tables on most of these updates. Not running 10.7 and other games like the new Spiderman work fine. Don't see folders to import for the artwork on most . Games start and play, just no play field artwork..... Any have a fix ?
How do I activate the upper flippers?
