Pinball Forever Month 2010
|
Final preparations are being made to conduct VPF's first ever online tournament. While we don't expect perfection the first run through, we anticipate a lot of fun for everyone involved. This has been months and months in the making with many obstacles hindering its progress. It is our hope to hold our very first tournament by month's end. It'll be well worth the wait! Several of pinball history's greatest legends will be joining us in our chatroom's latest stage of development. We now have audio and video for just such an occasion.
Expected to join us this month: Steve Ritchie, Roger Sharpe, Lonnie Mihin, Larry DeMar, and Greg Freres, as well as Randy Davis himself!

Visual Pinball 9 has seen some love over the course of the last month. Shagendo, Toxie and destruk have committed some changes to the VP9 SVN. The primary goal of the Dev Team is to get familiarized with the current code before adding the many new features we can look forward to over the coming months. Currently being worked on, or already submitted, include the following:
- Fixed a crash to desktop error when importing a 32bit CMYK JPG image. - Shagendo
- Fixed the TAB order for all the property panels. - Destruk
- Fixed some of the "offscreen surface errors". - Toxie
Added a selection on the edit dropdown - Paste preserving names. This will paste the same names the objects originally had. - Shagendo
A big thanks to the VP Dev Team for the continued efforts! I think I can speak for everyone when I say we eagerly anticipate everything you do to make VP9 a better program for our beloved hobby!
VP Development Forum
by Noah Fentz VPF Administrator
Last month, we were all informed of the loss of one of our own, computerfrk1. He had been a long time member of our community and a staunch supporter of VPF. In the past, he was involved in creating PinballUnlimited.net, a site which hosted VP online tournaments. Later, he joined us at VPF in the hopes of seeing his dream of VPM tournaments finally become a reality.
Our deepest condolences go out to his friends and family. My only wish is that he had had the opportunity to participate in our upcoming tournament. In his honor, we will hold an annual Computerfrk1 Memorial Tournament. Details still to come.

How would you like to take an active part in the future of Visual Pinball development? Destruk is looking for a few brave souls knowledgeable in C++ to lend a hand in making Visual Pinball 9 even better! Last month, we set up an entire VP Development Section which has been thus far underutilized. Come on, folks, this is it! THIS is what we've waited for for years! Let's all pitch in and make VP the best it possibly can be!

Destruk had the opportunity to witness a contraption billed as 'The World's Tallest Pinball'. The 28-foot high novelty, named 'Space Race' has been making stops at local fairs throughout the US.
For $4, you can take a shot at returning a space ship (the ball) to the U.S. (an area at the bottom center of the board) “without it being destroyed in a black hole of space.”
Everyone’s a winner, though those who successfully accomplish the mission will score a “life-size” inflatable alien “as a prisoner.”
Produced by Sungate Concessions of Williston, Florida, the price tag is $65,000.
