new to FP and just can't believe it could be this off.  I made sure to use the right physics engine (2.7, etc) but my problem is this.  I line up shots and they just don't go where they should.  Shots just seem random.  Everything else is top notch.  Am I doing something wrong or are the physics just that much worse compared to VP, etc?

I also downloaded BAM and it's in the right location but not sure I'm "using" it or if it's doing anything.

Best advice I can give you - if you want realism, uninstall FP !

There have always been complaints on the FP physics engine.  The physics have historically been unrealistic whereas VP the physics are better (although there is always room for improvement).

If you want realistic play stick to VP.

OK thanks guys - just wanted to make sure it wasn't me.  Too bad too b./c the tables do look good.  I especially like the soundtrack used in the TRON ultimate edition.  Wonder if I can inject that into the real rom on VP.

Heck, I just consider it the charm of FP :D

Slam's tables are worth the price of playing and the reason I keep it installed. No one does multimedia better.

If you install a recent version of Bam , you can tweak the physics on the fly to your liking. Too many people don't give FP a fare chance. GoPinball has numerous tutorials on optimizing FP

Don't make me laugh. FP is crap as a pinball emulator. The only use for it would be to install some good looking table with all the unnecessary bling only to show off when you have friends over. And, well, if they never ever have played a real pin, you could be daring letting them try as well.

As a DT pinball table user, there are exclusive things that only the Future Pinball Program has achieved, like being able to hit tab key and see backglass. Also you can change points of view by simply pressing the F1-F7 keys. The Physics really don't compare to Visual Pinball in my opinion, as some shots are simply not possible using the physics in Future Pinball.

Future Pinball also has the integrated video which VP has not achieved yet.

There are many reasons to have both, Future and VP installed, as each program is unique in what it can do.

(Cabinet users may have different experience, but I don't know, because I am not a cabinet user. YET!!)

Really the only downside to Future Pinball is the physics, but as stated in the above post, they have progressed a long way from where they started. BAM physics just being an example of how they have tried to improve the overall physics of Future Pinball. I am sure if they have Devs like this VP community has, they will keep striving to have the perfect physics and overall better gameplay. I am sure alot of people have put in alot of hours into trying to make this better for everyone else, and it is appreciated.

I am not going to get rid of my Atari 2600 Video Pinball because Super Nintendo comes out with a better pinball game with better physics. Yes the physics are not really great, but I will keep playing it and enjoying it every chance I get.

Just because something is better or newer, doesn't mean you kick everything else to the curb. Future Pinball deserves to have its place on the Virtual Pinball Totem Pole.

That goes for older VP tables too.

Yes VPX blows away VP8 and VP9 with all its new capabilities and physics, but I am not going to get rid of all my VP8 tables. I actually enjoy each and every table made. Even the older VP8 tables at IR Pinball are all worth having in ones collection in my opinion. It is actually amazing what they accomplished back then with the capabilities of the VP program. (You could only use jpegs and nothing over a certain resolution. So this meant no transparent png pics. AMAZING!!!)

In short,

I would encourage you to try out Future Pinball for yourself, and see it in action before making a decision on whether you want to kick it to the curb or not.

Same goes for all the old VP8 tables. They are all worth downloading in my opinion.

Have a great weekend!!

Even with BAM physics, FP is still inferior to VPVP has more realistic gameplay.

That being said......

The only reason to have FP installed is that there are a lot of tables made in FP that have not been made in VP since VP8!  Many EM tables have been recreated in FP (Poppotte and Greywolf have done a lot of these tables) that you don't see in VP9 or VPX but may see in VP8.  I only play FP tables occasionally due to the inferior physics but graphically they are better than the VP8 versions.

There are also so far unexplored features that Ravarcade has added that can be honed if people care to try.
These include fantasy features like animated models, higher res models, miniplayfields , alternating playfields, custom balls of any shape or size, translucent balls with objects inside , enhanced games rooms with animations , on the fly adjustments to flipper speed, friction , ball mass, table slope , material properties etc..
I can get used to any computer pinball physics...and I really dont prefer one over the other
