So, I just got a brand new computer for my mini pinball cabinet. It's a dual core AMD Athlon X2 250 (3.00Ghz) running Windows 7. The first thing I did was install Future Pinball (the latest version) -- however, when I try to run it (even as an administrator) the window pops up for a split second and then closes down right away. Anyone know what gives?

I haven't installed the video card I'm planning on running with it yet (nVidia 250GTS) but I wouldn't think that had anything to do with it because Future Pinball would open and load a table on my Vista laptop with no problems.

Hi Dizzle,

do you try the compatibility Mode Windows XP SP3.

Right click on the *.exe and select for it the compatibility Mode Windows XP SP3.

Hope it works now.

Yeah, I've tried just about every compatibility mode and I get the same result. I see the Future Pinball splash screen, then it opens up and closes pretty much right away. I don't want to crack open the box for the video card if this is going to be an issue with this computer. I'm stumped -- and getting real depressed!

Would it have anything to do with the 64-bit OS?

Future Pinball runs fine on my Vista 64bit desktop PC.

I don't know if it runs on 7. sad.gif Good luck.

Did you pay for Windows 7 to be installed? I think you should have gone with XP or Vista. sad.gif

Black is running Windows 7 64bit on his computer - if it was a windows 7 specific problem I would have thought he'd have a fix for it by now.

I run it with Windows 7 64 bit. Runs great. I had to run in admin. mode, also under editor options I had to uncheck the load load image into table editor. Don't think I had to do to much else with it. If I can think of anything else I did I will let you know.

Thanks KEG,

If you can think of anything else, that would be great. Unfortunately, I can't even uncheck the "load images into editor" option since I can't even get the program to stay open. At least I know someone is running it with Windows 7 64-bit. The Fry's I went to doesn't sell anything with Vista anymore sad.gif

I'm gonna try a couple of other things before I totally give up on the operating system. If all else fails, I guess I'll just use this rig for my 4-player MAME machine (which also needs a computer) and keep the GTS 250 and the 600W power supply I bought for building a rig from scratch. I've waited this long... what's another couple of months, huh?

Does anyone see a compatibility issue with my processor?

Bummer...

I'm just trying to get the program running with the nVidia integrated graphics for now. I figured that I wan't going to be able to run any tables, but I didn't think that would prevent from opening. Maybe I'm wrong and need to just go ahead and install the GTS 250 and give it a try?

I just installed the new power supply and the GTS 250 -- still get the same problem.

I'm online with the thing now downloading the newest drivers. We'll see what happens...

... and nope... no dice. Up to date drivers, uninstalled anti-virus. The only audio driver I see is the RealTek High Definition Audio which came on the computer. Tried just about everything. Future Pinball still shuts down immediately. Gonna take the power supply and video card out cause I'm giving up on this one. Sad thing is, after getting burned, I'm not sure if I even want to give this another try with a different machine.

Thanks for all the help peoples!!

Why don't you just install XP or Vista on it?

I'm sure after I cool down and get over my episodic hatred of Windows operating systems I'll look at XP again. I didn't want the 64-bit system to go to waste, so I installed MAME64-bit on the machine after removing the video card. So it's not a complete waste.

Where's the best place to purchase XP these days?

I hear what you are saying, but I am pretty sure that VP or FP do not take advantage of the 64bit system anyways. Did your pc come with a Windows 7 disk that you could use on a different pc, or OEM version?

Not sure if we are supposed to talk about this here, but XP can be found fairly easily online.

Unfortunately, it didn't come with a disk sad.gif I don't think it's an OEM version.

I'm probably going to build a rig from scratch for the pinball machine. Make sure I have plenty room for that monster video card and get EXACTLY what I want in it. My wife just told me that we have an XP disk in the original box. I'm pretty sure that it's what we used for my daughter's computer.
