For whatever reason I can't trigger switches in PinMAME using the row and column keys specified in the documentation. The idea is to press a row and column key together to trigger the corresponding switch while a game is running (for example, HQ). What am I missing? I tried with caps lock on and off.

What game?

If you run a game that has a simulator, like MM_10, the matrix keys won't work.

For any game where the matrix is active, you can always try and delete cfg/default.cfg, and cfg/(gamename).cfg, and try again.

Yes, that's one of the games where the matrix switch emulation doesn't work because of the implemented simulator. Sorry.
