TheMcD edit: EVERYBODY USING VP9 GET IN HERE! Thank you.

I thought it would be interesting to learn what tables run in either VP8 or 9 "out of the box."

I have learned that the following do...
  • Mata Hari (Scapino)
  • Dr. Who (Krellen/PacDude)
  • Earth, Wind, and Fire (LuvThatApex, TAB, Destruk)

There are a few others, but I have to remember what the heck they were...

What tables have you found work in both? I'll update the list as it grows.

Edit again: Or I'll do it. Anyway...

Perfectly running tables (personal test): Twilight Zone (PacDude/others);
Graphical issues but perfectly playable (personal testing again): Hook (Jamin); WhoDunnit (Jamin); The Addams Family (PacDude's remake);
Need confirmation (I'm not 100% sure): Scared Stiff (JPSalas/Highrise) (read my lower post for details)
Tables listed by others I can't sort into one of the above: Doom 2; Trigon; Last Action Hero;

I'll keep testing when I feel like it every once in a while.

AFM v4.2 Mod uploaded here!

But if you're comparing VP8 tables with the UltraPin ones, then all tables need some changes made to them, as Destruk has outlined in the Release Notes to VP9.

I've played Last Action Hero a few times in VP9 and haven't found any problems. Recommended to all those who enjoy Tommy, shares much in the same vein of multiple modes and fun DMD animations.

I'm looking for tables created for VP8 that run fine in VP9.

Trigon and Doom 2 are working fine. Trigon looks a bit easier to me because of the VP9 physics.

Jamin's Who Dunnit 1.21 works fine. All holes got hit once. The flippers and the spinner look awkward here, but that's just a cosmetical issue.

PD's TAF remake works fine, a few graphical glitches (without a doubt because of overlapping reels) but playable fully.

The McD

EDIT: Jamin's Hook looks good too. A few reel probs here and there, but overall nice.

I am SO setting a new record for consecutive posts here. And this is only because I want to keep this bumped.

Highrise's Scared Stiff.... hrum. I've played a few games and got the ball stuck once. The culprit was Wall261, one of the yellow posts in the right ramp and Laboratory area. Dunno if that was a one timer or if it will happen again. Confirmation anyone?

You are welcome to edit my first post, McD. Be sure to note any glitches in issues.

If a ball gets stuck at all, please don't include it.

Perhaps start a VP 9 MOD "to do" list, instead?

Thanks!

The AfterBurner table by Scapino, subzero1970 and me seems to work on VP9 (I played a few games and had no problems).

'Corvette' seem to run just fine in VP9. In fact, I think it runs much smoother in VP9 than VP8. smile.gif

None...although some may run under VP9 they were designed and optimised for VP8.

what exactly is the point in this post? I would think most people would have both VP8 and VP9. There shouldn't be any confusion on what table needs a certain program either. if they are using VP-Man and set the launch settings to each table to VP8 or VP9 as they go along adding tables. There shouldn't be any confusion or need to run a table under the wrong program.
If you have a widescreen 16:9 monitor and want to play your VP9 desktop tables without them being stretched, check out This Link

It's not running a table under the wrong program. It's tables that are basically backwards compatible, so you can enjoy the improved physics of VP9 with some old classics.

I just tried Jamin's Who Dunnit and it works flawlessly 'out of the box'. It's a BEAUTIFUL table, too!

Whilst a table built with VP8 may per chance run Ok in VP9, it will always play better in VP8, you will not be enjoying any 'improved' VP9 physics without extensive changes to the layout and the table physics. wink.gif

Not true. Better ball behavior and flippers are immediately apparent when playing the table in VP9.

Not true...a bigger VP ball is immediately apparent and without making adjustments to the flipper setting any VP8 table running under VP9 without adjustment will play worse and forget about trying to nudge it. wink.gif

Yeah, okay.

Dude, I'm not going to argue with you. I believe you're wrong, and that's that. It's my opinion.

Many tables are slightly big, and playing them in VP9 only makes them better. Besides, the ball appearance is identical.

I have better things to do than debate opinion here, so I'll leave it at that.
