Rumours from a movie described in PC Games Hardware and Gamestar mean that the RTX 2080 Ti is able to show 30 till 40fps in full hd resolution with enabled ray tracing shadows in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It seems ray tracing is hardware hungry. The result is not final and may be better with final drivers and until the near game release for the 14th September.

Another result for BF5 means also below 60fps and with full hd resolution atm only.

Ray tracing is still computationally intense, yes. But it got several X faster now.

That's why i said earlier in the thread that it will still take years to go all-in with ray tracing. For now, it will be limited to make some effects like shadows and reflections way more accurate.

I was under the same impression for years too, thats why I was also wondering how they were able to come up with the ray tracing in real time. I did not follow each step closely to the subject and now after the first early results are rumored it means yes they can do it, but they may need to finetune the hard and software over the next years. I would like to see myself a massive boost but that seems to be the first from many to come steps. We both see the same and I agree with you.

For example the Porsche demo still uses a lot of rasterization which is especially a performance benefit for all the advanced shading/material code, but then some ray tracing for everything that is difficult to get with 'raster fakes'.
