Finally, the update drought is over! We have VP9!

yahoo.gif

VP 9 Features include:
  • Optimized for vpm.
  • LOTR runs close to full speed with emulated sound.
  • Ball blurring/stutters/etc have been greatly reduced.
  • This still has lag/issues with 26 balls in play on Johnny Mnemonic.
  • Translate locked triggers.
  • Plunger and all other objects can be locked in the editor.
  • Sound/graphic exporter/table unlocker.
  • Dual display span mode support so vp has full control over the backbox display as well as table.
  • Table rotation - 360 degrees possible.
  • Full physics options for slope, oblique correction, flipper settings, ball dampening, scatter angle, friction, gravity.
  • Table scaling support X+Y.
  • Table bottom height - set the bottom of the table lower than the playfield surface for realistic holes.
  • Scriptable exit table to desktop method.
  • Updated for DirectX9 0 full hardware rendering.
  • Reduced engine crashes.
  • Support for Pinball Wizard Input Controller.

And, yes, the ball through the flipper HAS BEEN FIXED!

Keep an eye on VPForums.org for future updates!

Very interesting. I'm checking it out now.
The upgrade descriptions in the pdf look like this will boost some life back into VP!

Thank you David, and to all others involved.

Wow, that's great news!

Has it been made more friendly towards newer video cards? I'm really hoping the ATI bug, now the ATI-and-also-NVidia bug, has been fixed in VP9.

Seems the new release has a bug: if you start a new table (not saved), and launch the table, then quit, it completely exits the program.

Other than that, it's a pretty awesome release.

Good job!!

what about those invisible flippers? when can you fix that bug? every table I load into vp9 (including the 'new' one in there already) has no visible flippers, nor plungers

faralos,
Did you try going to the Preferences menu and select a proper resolution. Also make sure it's set to Full Screen and not Windowed. That worked for me to fix it.

This sounds like great news for the community. I don't have a ton of time to peruse the forums these days so I feel like I'm behind on what's going on with this. Can anyone give some background on how this came about? Who's working on it? Is Randy involved? A thousand pardons if this info is already posted somewhere on here. Thanks.

What?

Long story...in a few words nobody was expecting a VP v9.x.x release...it was almost abandoned. VP9 introduced new physics engine, new graphics engine (compatible with dx 9) and many other very important features that all of us were dreaming for years..
