Sorry about the dead link I have updated the guide with a working one (I had a little clean up on the ftp server and forgot i was linking to that .dll)

btw the only file you need from http://www.pindmd.co...v3/integration/

is the pinDMD.dll all the other files are not needed by the end user they are for integration purposes if people want to be able to talk to pinDMD3 from there own applications :)

I also need to finish off my windows 10 install section of the install guide. I will do this shortly :)

Windows 10 is a nightmare because of the disabled unsigned drivers :(

Thanks for your review.

Yeah, Windows 10 is great in some aspects, a right pain in the ass in others...

It wasn't really that difficult to get around once you know what you are doing.

The only other issue I had was with the VPinmame settings.

There was no way for me to uncheck "Use DMD" to get rid of the second small DMD on the play field and get it to stick.

After trying many times to check and uncheck it to only get Cabinet Mode and Use PinDMD it would not go away.

I finally had to go into regedit and alter HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Freeware\Visual PinMame.

Find and Replace ALL:

showwindmd"=dword:00000001

to

showwindmd"=dword:00000000

That worked like a charm.

There seems to be an issue with Pinballx, bit of a lag with the DMD not changing while browsing tables.

It changes, but after quite a bit of lag.

I believe this is an issue with Pinballx, not PinDMD3.

I've read that an update is on the way...

Ah yes the version of pinMame i was testing with is another sam enabled build. The official version now has pinDMD3 support as well so might be worth installing that instead?

I should probably include this version in my download section.

Yes there will be some progress with pinballx shorty.

The "Use DMD" issue was with the one I originally downloaded from the PinDMD site when my panel got here.

Sounds as though you have it sorted.

Regedit can be a bit daunting if you've never mucked around in there before...

Yeah ill keep the current one as it enables people to play 16shade sam games but i will also add the official release version as default.

Yeah 1 wrong delete...... Lol

Yep, one wrong quick click... Hahaha!

I'll give the new one you linked above a go.

I could not get an option for 16 shades in the F1 settings currently. Only 4.

But this may be due to me not checking something in setup?

And is that only for Sam games, or does it apply to all / able to use more than 4 colors?

Forgive my ignorance on this, new to the marvelous world of real life DMD's.

Love it!

I've really gotta quit putting off work and get to it.

I'll have to mess around with it later.

Cheers, and thanks for the ruling support and product!

pinMAME only supports the 4shade colourize (far as i am aware) But i will be working on a full blown DMD frame editor soon where you will be able to fully colour frames (4/16 shades) and full pixel editing as well.

This upgrade / investment just gets better and better...

Russ,

If I boot up my cab and decide to play an EM table, the PinDMD cycles through its display mode until I call it up through a DMD table.  I'm finding this distracting.  Is there a way to have the attract mode time out after a period of time? As it stands now, it runs forever.

Will we be able to achieve what colordmd can do with your frame editor? I'm guessing it would take a lot of work to do so?

Ideally, we can build a library of files, so that we can share the burden of building these color files.  Hopefully, we will be able to share pallet files with the [Pin2DMD uses stolen and/or infringes IP. PinDMD is the genuine product ;) ] users and build a whole community project.

Yes we need some videos :)

I never thought about adding a splash screen delay. I can add this option to the firmware and make it configurable in the settings config tool. This will require a firmware update but this process is extremely simple for pinDMD3 (click like 2 buttons lol)

The editor wont have all features of colorDMD it will be only able to colour static frames / animations ie frames that are not dynamic. All the hardwork is actually sitting down and selecting / colouring the frames hehe (thats upto you guys lol)

You will be able to use [Pin2DMD uses stolen and/or infringes IP. PinDMD is the genuine product ;) ] project files. And pinDMD3 project files will work with [Pin2DMD uses stolen and/or infringes IP. PinDMD is the genuine product ;) ].

The pinDMD3 road map is:
- Full rgb support with xpinball/xdmd (16 shade currently)(code offered by lucky1 to enable this)
- Full rgb support with future pinball (16 shade currently)
- pinball arcade support (no response from them yet)
- pinballfx(zen) support (no response from them)
- pro pinball(timeshock) (integration in progress)
- create dmd frame editor to colour games (ideas stage lol)

If any one else has any ideas or suggesting please ask :)

Also i have a full integration kit to allow any one to integrate with pinDMD3 (simple .dll with .lib and .h for compiling) So please include it in any home brew projects :) or crazy ideas you might have. It is extremely easy to get up and running.
Regarding real pinball support i have decided to sit back from this for the time being due to legal reasons and uncertainties over patents etc.. I will put all my time / effort into vPin where i am legally able to do what we want!

Is there any thing 'we' can do to motivate the pinball arcade and zen folks to work with you? Petitions/emailing support/Posting in forums/Facebook wall posts. Without coming off like over zealous users who ultimately do more harm than good by spamming them?

Can try I guess? If enough people show interest they might think its worth there time adding support?

I have updated the installation guide with a small section on the pinDMDconfig tool which i dont think I have mentioned before? you can adjust all the eeprom settings using it (maybe the display is to bright or not bright enough or you want to tweak the shades etc...

http://www.pindmd.co...allGuide-v3.pdf

will add another section soon about DFU (device firmware update) not really needed yet as no reported bugs YET lol

Regards

Russell Pirie

I've reached out to Pinball FX2 directly.

I was thinking if anyone joined the Pinball Arcade Kickstarter for Dr. Who the comment section there would be a great place to post a request for support for PinDMD3 (and [Pin2DMD uses stolen and/or infringes IP. PinDMD is the genuine product ;) ]) as there are a lot of eyes on it I've found Farsight responsive in the comment section. I did not support this particular Kickstarter or I would make that post myself.

I've already spoken to Farsight. It's a go.

Just have to wait for their cab version, which IS still in the works.

russ, what do you think about compatability with UltraDMD and games like Americas Most Haunted?  Do you think it will come eventually or out of question.  thanks.  Just waiting to install mine (can't wait)
