For want of a better name
I finally made a start on the cab build.
I already had the computer built and everything set up and working for months now.
Time to put it in a cab.
i7 3.06 ghz
x58A UD 3R mother board
2 x GTS250 (16x/16x)
4gb Ram
700w PSU
500 gb hdd
All thrown together in a half case
Scored some ply from the last job I worked at and it just happened to be the right lengths.
I measured up Judge Dredd and cut the sides and measured the screen for the width.
Still debating whether to rout slots in the sides to house the screen, but for now I left it wider and installed
temparary guides to sit the 46 on to gauge the hight and position.
Will probably use the samsung in the backbox and get another 46 that has smaller bezel.
Still have to work out the backbox height yet.
Thats it so far

Good start! You made a fair bit of progress in a short amount of time, it looks like.

a small bezel sharp is what you need, but..................................
sadly at the moment due to supply problems in japan, the 46" sharp with the 3.5mm bezel has jumped to about "$4,000" !
it would mean you have the nicest panel available it uses there quantron technology but instead of the 4th pixel yellow it is clear producing a huge brightness increase and a massive drop of power usage

Havnt had much time to do any more just yet.
Busy with gettin some drivin games fixed and ready for school hols,
and clearcoating the Cosmic Princess playfield, and strippin Frankenstein to get pics of plastics, and so on and so forth.
Among other things, ordering parts and need 2nd screen, cash outlay time.
Got the screen heights measured up today. Works out that the backbox height will be near identical to Guns N Roses.
Did some rough measuring and there should be enough height to have a drawer tray out the back, under the vertical screen.
Also a full sized backbox glass with lift channel and painted surround to hide the bezel.
With a little bit of modifying, the lockdown bar locking mechanism can be made to fit so that
the bar covers the whole bezel. Huge side edge bezel of 35mm. Damn.

Might have to rethink some of this,
cant get the B2S stuff to look any good rotated.
Might end up going with the old school back box look, looks great with the BG big and square.
Now it has turned into 2 separate builds.
Start with the old school, then start a 3 screen DMD build.
Any way , parts are starting to arrive and mount up, with any luck,
it will get knocked together over a weekend when I have everything.
Time to start planning the wiring.

Use the video card software to rotate the display. I know ATI's stuff can do it, and I'm nearly certain nVidia's can, too. Then the software has no idea that it's being rotated, because the OS/driver is doing it on the sly.

I tried that but the B2S resolution gets all screwed.
Still running 1920 x 1080 res, I set the HP BG setting to 1280 x 600 to get the BG to square up,
the speaker grills look round and back glass is not stretched down too far.
Anyway , back to the shed for the weekend to do more cab testing.
MSF beta testing , cant wait.

Started some wiring from stuff I have laying around.
Using this line filter IEC socket that I had in a drivin game power supply hack as my 240v feed.
Wired it to go to the 1st power socket for the computer to plug into.
Using this 240v plug to 2 x IEC plug splitter cable for the 2 LCDs.
Finally , I found this cool motorised USB hub. Dont know if I will put in in the front or underneath at the side.
Either way, it will make life easier.
Thats it for now, just lots of planning and ordering parts.
Be nice if I could shake this wintery sickness, doesn't help the thinking process much.

Are those real VHS tapes, DVDs, and CDs I see behind your cabinet? Man, who knew anyone still had that stuff around, what will the Interweb having it all online and stuff!
I like the old school look. It goes with your media collection *snicker*.
Seriously, though, I do like the old school look with new technology inside - all the nostalgia, none of the headaches *grin*.
The USB hub thing looks pretty cool, too.

Showin my age now.
Dont even look at most of it anymore, but I still have the dual vhs set up and 20+ years of music videos. There is about 10 or more boxes packed full somewhere that you cant see.
Now its all hrd drives filled up.
I think it deserves the old school look with all the EMs that are available on VP and FP.
Man you guys are almost finished. I been left behind.

Finally started to get more bits and pieces together
Got the din rail , power sockets, circuit breaker switch, relay unit.
Time for some wiring (rubs hands together)
Went with the 46" Sharp LCD, pick it up next week.
Maybe then I can get final measurements and order the custom lockdown bar and bits.
No more to see here.

Nice wiring, both so far on your cabinet, and on the playfield. You have a good eye for detail.
