File Name: Serious Sam Pinball

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 26 Sep 2017

File Category: VPX Originals

Author(s): jpsalas
Permission to MOD?: Yes, with approval

Original table based on the story and characters from Croteam's game "Serious Sam: The Second Encounter".
Almost all the graphics are not from the game, but from different Maya images and models.

This table only uses only VPX, without any external programs. All the sound and music are included in the table.

You will find a document with the rules. But they are quite easy to understand, and there aren't too many rules so they are easy to remember. A few things are not explained in the manual :)

I got the idea about the trees from the Monkey Island VPX test version, but I used a nicer timer, instead of a timer with interval = 1 :)

That's all, enjoy the table :)

These are my tables, sorted by date, all them playable with VPX 7 or newer:

After 18 years making tables, it is time to take a rest and let new authors do their thing.

I guess at last I'll play some more pinball :). But I'm sure I'll make some table updates from time to time :)

I got a script error after the mystery award gave me an extra ball:

Line: 3009

Undefined variable: 'l23'

If you make the skill shot on the bumper rollover lanes, it says "Skill shot! 500000" but the score is not actually increased.

Is not having a lane change feature intentional?

Two of the trees are placed so that in desktop mode, they obscure the inlane/outlane area.

Thanks, I take note of the errors :)

Yes, the no lane change is intentional :)

And yes, the trees obscure the outlanes area :)

Heres a quick directb2s, based on JP's DT Background, nothing special, only until we get Hauntfreaks LightShow

Just add this to an empty Line in Script, example Line 10:

Dim Controller: Set Controller = CreateObject("B2S.Server"): Controller.Run

... also dont Forget: uncoment Line 325 (remove '), that "Controller.Stop" can be active

Played 2 rounds, while entering my HS initials the UltraDMD display went black - it starting to show me Status Info and the left flipper was locked/frozen.

Wonderful atmosphere in this table.

If there was one thing could maybe improve that a bit it would be that the "ding" sound when counting bonus feels misplaced for the general sound of the table.

Big thumbs up JP.

Thanks, Thalamus, I take note to disable the Status info while not in play (also while entering initials) :)

I used that "ding" also on the Slimer table, I'll see if I find something better :)

Nice. A good table like this one needs a nice backglass, so thank you HF !!

I've played this table some more now, that issue I reported hasn't happened again.

And now for the review ... god damn I love this table !! I love the fact that it isn't a easy game. It has a lot of modes and they all require accuracy. The scoring isn't too high so I will never ever be able to crash it like Diablo. I'm looking forward to have a backglass and play this more tomorrow. The music just fits the table and those comments by Sam from time to time makes me smile.

Maybe it could be improved just slightly if when completing a mode you get a feedback. I believe most of the time I heard "awesome", but there where others that didn't say anything or I missed it ? That, and if you have a trapped ball ( not regular multiball ) in the EB/Multiball kicker it is shot out with almost no warning. Or maybe I was to occupied and not yet fully aware of the signs ?

Again, a very good table indeed. My new favourite original !! Going back to play some games before hitting the bed, I just can't resist.

Another bug I found: After starting multiball for the first time, it is not possible to lock more balls after the multiball ends.

My guess is that the variable BallsInLock(CurrentPlayer) is never reset. You can't lock ball 3 to start multball when the game thinks you're locking ball 4, 5, 6 and so on...

UPDATE

1.0.1 Updated 27.09.2017
- fixed a few small bugs in the script, and made a few small changes here and there.

Thanks to all who reported the bugs :)

I decided to removed the "ding" in the the bonus count, I guess it is better to just listen to the relaxed music before starting again :)

I have also change the superjackpot sound, which it was the normal jackpot sound.

I also added a explosion after finishing a battle, and a random light show.

I miss a lot of sounds, but I couldn't find any that sounded like Sam :) like "extra ball is lit", "lock is lit", "ball 1 locked", "ball 2 locked", "ball 3 locked", etc. Maybe some day :)
