File Name: Mr. Black (Taito do Brasil - 1984)

File Submitter: jpsalas

File Submitted: 20 Dec 2017

File Category: VPX/VPinMAME Recreations

Author(s): jpsalas
Manufacturer: Taito
Year: 1982
ROM: Link to ROM
Permission to MOD?: Yes, without approval

Based on the Taito table from 1982.
Playfield layout is very similar to Williams' 1982 'Defender'.
Thanks to Carlos Guizzo for the source images.
Thanks to Pmax65 for the nvram fix script.

This table also uses a lock system. If you quit the table with some balls locked then the next time you play the table it may not start right, and you'll need to delete the nvram file, the same as happened with Shark.

These are my tables, sorted by date, all them playable with VPX 7 or newer:

After 18 years making tables, it is time to take a rest and let new authors do their thing.

I guess at last I'll play some more pinball :). But I'm sure I'll make some table updates from time to time :)

Should we call that 2 tables in one day ?

Thank you once again JP. I hope I will be just a bit as active as you are when I retire ;-)

From now on. I won't help anyone here at VPF. Please ask Noah why that is.

Haha. Judge yourself :)

Oh. I forgot. Carlos. Thank you once again for providing JP with the materials. No materials/info mean no table.

Sound  error?

Wounderful table thank you very much JP & Carlos! Most of the Taito recreations are more fun than the originals. And this is definitive another one.

But the sound, like a defective synthesizer stucking in with most of its samples. I switched the rom-sound off, so the table is much more fun than with.

merry christmas & thank you again, Christian.

Yes, those Taito tables had some weird noises :) But it us easy to fix, run the table, press F1, remove the mark in "Use Sound", problem solved :) And as someone suggested, put some Led Zeppelin :)

It is part of the charm. It is not like Taito is the only one with "bad" sound. What about Devils Dare ? :)

very nice as always. 2nd table in a row though where I can't stop the DMD from displaying in my BG monitor. won't hold the position I put it in. How do I keep this from happening?

Update on my dmd issue. So if I delete out the following section, then change the color on the dmd, it holds the color but still will not hold my desired dmd position:

         SetDisplayPosition 3973,152, GetPlayerHWnd 'restore dmd window position
         Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("dmd_red") = 0
        .Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("dmd_green") = 223
        .Games(cGameName).Settings.Value("dmd_blue") = 223

Also can see that the x/y position does change in regedit to reflect whatever the current position is, but it seems to get over-ridden from another source. Any clues on why this is happening? In the past, if I deleted the above section, the dmd position would hold. Is there a setting in the new vpx version that is overriding this? Really frustrating me to no end. Have spent half my afternoon on this and can't make sense of it.

@bpjacobsen Please don't spam all table thread with you dmd issue. Sure. If you have a problem you will have problem with every table. Doesn't mean it is related to the table. It's on your end so lets keep it where it belongs. We're trying to help you, but, we're haven't figured it out yet.

No problem. My apologies. Just seems odd that some tables display the dmd in the right spot from the get go and hold, but others show up in my BG and won't stay there. I will refrain from creating more going forward. Thanks. If I figure something out, I will update, otherwise, will keep looking for more updates. thanks again.

I only use one screen, so my tables are not set up to display the dmd on a second screen. But one of the reasons the dmd doesn't start in the same position next time you run the table could be that you have not checked for "cabinet mode" in the setup exe for vpinmame. See the picture:

That worked! at least for Panthera. will try that on the few others with this issue. definitely must be for just some tables. Most of them seem to not need any adjustments when I switch to vpx version of tables. guessing it's b/c I'm not changing the backglass and I believe these are mostly run by the B2S?

worked for Mr. Black too. so why would this not be an issue for the majority of the other tables I have switched to VPX?

@bpjacobsen : We've all been there and know the frustration.you're experiencing very well :) So, no worries. I'm confident that we will be able to figure this one out. Hopefully soon. Admit, been scratching my had a bit. But, well, the software is not perfect. Crushing bugs is part of the daily business of the devs.

Update: do you have a registry key name ... not rom name like eg. afm_160 but ... just default ? Did you know that every table you visit that you don't have a rom entry for will inherit from that one ? So, if it contains something that you don't want you are kind of in trouble. It will copy the "bad" values into the game/rom you've never played before.

Thank you JP for another great version, another i never heard about before, DOF is now complete.

could you make an update to split the shared switches of the slingshots like this?

Sub LeftSlingShot_Slingshot
    PlaySound SoundFX("fx_slingshot", DOFContactors), 0, 1, -0.05, 0.05
    DOF 101, DOFPulse
    LeftSling4.Visible = 1
    Lemk.RotX = 26
    LStep = 0
    vpmTimer.PulseSw 53
    LeftSlingShot.TimerEnabled = 1
End Sub

Sub RightSlingShot_Slingshot
    PlaySound SoundFX("fx_slingshot", DOFContactors), 0, 1, 0.05, 0.05
    DOF 102, DOFPulse
    RightSling4.Visible = 1
    Remk.RotX = 26
    RStep = 0
    vpmTimer.PulseSw 53
    RightSlingShot.TimerEnabled = 1
End Sub
