We could switch to using newer compilers, and although this is not a must, it may increase performance and/or compatibility with some things.. So:

Currently using win7 on my game computer.  Since Micro$oft has already stopped selling 7 with new machines, I do not like 8, and I have a non "ET Phone Home" version of XP. I will be using XP for future builds! (Unless VP starts supporting Linux as that is what I am switching all my home and work PC to.)

recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate (previously XP).  Previously had graphic 'glitches' with Future Pinball - now all ok! Just a minor issue I need to investigate is Hyperpin Frontend not exiting but I see some posts here so need to read up ! :)

You can still buy Windows 7 OEM and retail from most good online e-tailers like Newegg, NCIX, Overclockers UK, Scan and Aira PC.

I'm a PC and Windows 7 was my idea :)

32-bit Win 7 Ultimate with a 64-bit P-4. 2.8 Ghz. No issues.

64bit should be a problem, as there would be a lot of hazards with the old libraries VP uses (like DX7, and others).

I guess it could be done anyhow, but at the price of stability and introducing other headaches.

I'm curious about the one person using Vista, wonder if it operates trouble free?

Also using windows 7 64 bit in a cab.

I am also wondering if cabinet owners use a different OS. I am still on XP and will only change that if a dev like toxie is saying it will be better to switch. Hopefully that will not happen for a while though...

I used it on my old laptop, and it was running fine.. But for cab usage, i guess it shares the same issues as win7..

I guess XP will be around for a while, so no problem there.. Currently its really just about the -old- windows versions like 95 and NT..

I use Win 7 Laptop very good for running all my VP and VPinMAME tables..... I also use MAME... Planning on heading over to Apple on my next major computer purchase for my personal home use.

I'm tired of Microsoft and all there upgrades every few years it's getting extremely OLD not to mention all there useless updates. If Apple has it together why doesn't MS follow suit.

I wouldn't touch a Win 8 computer it's garbage in my opinion...

Windows 7 has been great for me.  Some cab users might use XP, but only because they have nothing to lose by doing so.  I use my PC for other things, & Windows 7 can do it all for me.  I can play VP just fine, then seconds later I can play the latest Dx11 game.

But yes, if things could be more optimized for win7, that would be awesome because its no secret that many VPM tables require an awful lot of horsepower, any optimization would be welcomed.
