Has anyone ever attempted to recreate non-real pinballs, such as the excellent ones from Pinball Dreams on the Amiga computer? I did a search for "Steel Wheels" and there were no matches. Those pinballs were quite fun and rated very highly in the Amiga's heyday, and yes, I know I can play them with the WinUAE emulator; but having them recreated as part of Visual Pinball would be great. I lack the knowledge to do it myself.

Hello SJ2571,

since I am an old-time Amiga addict, I searched for such stuff as well and found this: http://irpinball.org/pcgames.htm . Just browse through the list and you'll find a bunch of VP conversions of Amiga pinball games, including Steel Wheel, most (or all) of them created by 'Garimur'. Have fun!

P.S. if you are into Future Pinball as well, find the 'Speed Devils' and other pinballs here: http://www.pinsimdb.org/fpreleases . Just search by table name.

@hgpinball: Thanks, I downloaded some but can't play them -- pressing 5 doesn't insert a coin like other tables?

@rdeejay: Haven't tried FP yet. The only tables I like work fine under VP. Isn't FP worse than VP, though?

#1: some tables (e. g. Stones 'n Bones) use the same key scheme like on the Amiga: press <F1> thru <F8> to add a player, just see the explanations on the 'DMD'.

#2: yes, FP is more demanding in terms of hardware that VP. Just try it with all video options at minimum, then tune it. Honestly, these tables look much better in FP...

Hi, as a newbie: what's DMD and how do I access it?

Anyway, I did try them now that F1 starts, but... hmm, without that old Amiga music it's just not as much fun. nea.gif

Hello sj2571,

the DMD is the 'Digital Matrix Display' that you see in VPM tables, it resembles the segmented LED or Matrix displays of real pins. In VPM tables it is controlled by VPinMame using a ROM file (for details see the Installation Guide http://www.vpforums....u...l&f_id=2990 ), in these Amiga tables it is done by VP alone. So just look at the top right corner or top edge of the table and watch...
For the music: on the site http://irpinball.org/pcgames.htm you see a note (like used in music notation) at the right of the table name. Click it to download the zip file, extract the mp3 file(s) and put it/them into the Music folder inside the VP folder. And voilá, here's the music... dblthumb.gif (note that this procedure is valid for many tables that come with music, and the Music folder has to be inside the folder where VP was installed. Details again in the Installation Guide).

and if by chance you DON'T see your particular pin if you post a pic of the one in question, some poor fool on here will most likely look at it and decide to make it in vp just because they can! so post away!

Pinball Dreams / Fantasies / Illusions was a great series that I loved on my Amiga. Yes there is old VP versions of the tables at irpinball. Yes there is also versions on FP that look good but play like crap.

To answer your question yes VP is better then FP by far.
If you have a widescreen 16:9 monitor and want to play your VP9 desktop tables without them being stretched, check out This Link

I may be poor, but I'm not always a fool. On Wednesday afternoons I've been known to be quite clever at times.

@hgpinball: Ah, so that's what DMD means. smile.gif

Also: thanks for the music tip -- I just thought that musical note symbol was there because the Amiga pinnies had "good music" or something; it never occurred to me to click it. Now that I have the music installed, "Steel Wheel" feels 100% better to play! smile.gif
