UPDATE: Version 1.0.0 released! Get it here.

So the last week I've been working on a little project that mirrors pixels from the computer monitor to the DMD. I managed to do it quite efficiently and I managed also to grab Pinball FX2's DMD windows even if it's hidden.

So basically you run the app and you get DMD support for Pinball FX2:

pindmd-hulk.png

It's tested a little for PinDMDv3 and ******* displays, and I added support for PinDMDv2 as well, which is currently completely untested. So it's up to you guys to provide some first feedback!

The whole program is open source. I call it "DMD Extensions" and you can read more about it here:

     https://github.com/f.../dmd-extensions

Documentation and install instructions are there. You can always find the latest version here.

Thanks to Lucky1, Tom Speirs, Russell and CarnyPriest for help and a first feedback!

Happy testing!

EDIT: When I tested it on my cab, it still couldn't access *******.dll, although it was there and unblocked. Let me know if you have the same problem.

EDIT2: Updated link to v0.0.2.

EDIT3: Updated link to v0.0.3.

EDIT4: Updated text to v1.0.0

EDIT5: What, now they're censoring out PIN(1+1)DMD in here? Classy.

Congrats!

I'm not yet sure that this only works with FX2. Conceptually, this can mirror any piece of the playfield to display on a Real DMD. Freezy included a virtual DMD output. Again, I'm not sure if it is in the beta. But potentially this means being able to display ProPinball's or TPA's DMD on a real DMD or in a virtual DMD anywhere on the desktop, change the color, etc. Very versatile.

I don't have my Pin2DMD installed yet, but I'm definitely going to test over the next few days if the virtual DMD is there.

OMG! That is amazing... just set it up, no problems what so ever. No error accessing the dll for me! (Running a PINDMD3)

Edit:

2 questions...

1. Can I call the executable from command line and pass it a parameter so it starts pulling frames from Pinball FX2 automatically by chance? With the thought of having PinballX do it on launch.

2. How'd you change the colour to green on yours? That would also be cool to be able to pass colour options to it based on game.

I can't believe you did this... it looks soooo amazing!

Yeah man that's awesome. I don't have a real dmd but love to see how this community keeps making virtual pinball more and more amazing. Mad skills sir. I applaud you.

Yes this is awesome, now if we can launch this from PinballX when opening an FX2 table and then close it out when exiting back to PinballX, like roar suggested, it would be perfect

Thanks guys!
Of course everything you asked is possible. Such options will come, they're all ready, e.g. there's already a color filter implemented (not active for PBFX) with customizable color. The screenshot on the other hand is the Hulk table, which has a green tint in PBFX as well.

As I said, take this as a proof of concept, customization options are gonna be in phase 2. ;)

EDIT: Updated to v0.0.2. File is here. PinDMD2 and PIN2DMD should be fixed.

Wow!! That sounds (and looks) amazing!

Seems to be the missing software which prevented me from going for a RealDMD so far.

I will definitely keep an eye on this post and re-think my approach to use a third monitor as a DMD.

Many thanks for this great piece of software, freezy!!

Kind regards,

Jannek

Fantastic work! Thanks.  :otvclap:

I'm running PinDMD v2 but won't be able to test for a while as I'll be moving house in a couple of weeks and will be packing up my pincab ready for the move this weekend.

Looking forward to getting settled and seeing future developments. :)

Hi,

I´ve got running a pinDMDv2.

I can see the frames on the grapper, but nothing on my dmd...

How should I install all the files correctly?

There´s no install guide......

I read the "readme" file, but ther e isn´t a concrete install guide.

I extract both files in one folder. next i startet the grapper and click on pinball fx....

After that i startet pBFX2 and  tadaaa... I can see the frames on the grapper....but nothing on the real dmd...

Maybe I made a mistake when installing the files...

Hmm okay will check what protocol it uses and how easy it would be to add support.

Did you unblock the DLLs and EXE files (right-click, Properties, unblock) ?

Noticed the 5 most right columns appear to be a shade or two lighter on my PINDMD3 than the rest of the display. Don't recall seeing that yesterday... may have just been too excited :) Not noticing the same thing in the GUI.
