Hi, I actually found a fix for this Visual Pinball problem when I discovered I couldn't use the "Tilde" key to bring up the console in Quake 3 arena to setup the custom "widescreen" settings I needed for my notebook. Hopefully this will help others who have the problem. Basically, you change the driver for MCIR device in the keyboard (something to do with an infrared pointer perhaps.) Anyways, not only did it solve my tilde key problem, it also resolved the issue with Visual Pinball not recognizing the Right Shift key. Here's the link to GameSpot with the fix:

odd, I have over 400 tables and none of them use the 'z' and '/' key. Are these real old table perhaps?

Besides, it does away with the mental adjustment period following a four-hour-plus Space Cadet high-score
I´ve been through this in 2006, got fed up of it, did a Google "virtual pinball" search & found out about FP, unplayable till now on all my machines, & VP, enjoying it till now.

Did you mean you were fed up with a dead Right-Shift key? Or with four-hour-plus Space Cadet games.
Either way, you have our sympathies.

Good with VP, when a key is dead, you can just select another one!
Space Cadets physics are boring, but I did not know then.

I also have a notebook computer. I tried Kruge99's post to uninstall the Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard within Windows7 device manager . As long as I don't restart the computer , it will work . When I restart Windows7 it puts the Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard right back into device manager . How do I permanently uninstall this device driver . Any help would be much appreciated . Thanks in advance !!!!!

I have a similar issue, only difference is that I can't use the key that's used for opening the coin door! How stupid is that!
And the VPinMAME keys can't be changed in Visual Pinball!
Oh, and a 4 hour Space Cadet game is insane! Especially considering how far the flippers rotate when they are activated, disallowing any advanced flipper passing and stuff!

Funny you should mention that! The only direct shot to the 'remote attack bumper', from the right flipper, is so thin that it's not worth trying; however, if you could flip from the tip of the left flipper to about a third of the way up the right sling, the angle is greatly improved. Because of the flippers' strength and rotation, however, the shot can't be even wished for out of a trap.
Just gotta keep those cards and letters (and Extra Balls) comin' in, folks!

Right shift key wont activate a paddle? Well thats good news since pinball machines don't have Paddles..... unless of course you are playing Granny and the Gators.....oh wait, you mean flippers ooooooooooh

I had just the same problem after a very long break from VP / VPN. The right shift key can't be selected in preferences/keys in VP editor.
It seems to be "dead", but it works in other applications. The fix (link) posted above didn't help, as it isn't there anymore or I couldn't find.
However, after a long search I managed to find a solution anywhere else. I think it should be available here at VPForums, so here it is.
As far as I understood: Apparently various DX software selects "Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard" and uses its keyboard mapping,
which is causing weird issues with \, =, Right Shift and other keys.
Don't use this solution, if you need the driver, as you use corresponding hardware! It's a permanent solution. Windows doesn't replace
it with "Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard" at restart.
1. Start "Device Manager"
2. Open "Keyboards"
3. Select "Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard"
4. Right-click "Update Driver Software"
5. Select "Search for driver software on the computer"
6. Select "From a list of device drivers on the computer"
7. Select "HID-compliant device"
8. Next (Updating driver)
9. Close the window
10. Close the Device Manager

WOW! From a 4-1/2-year-old topic, linked to a SEVEN-year-old topic.
Hi, Yogi; it's good to read from you, and good to see that you still feel the urge to hunt down obscure computer / pinball remedies. I came across these threads having searched the content of another long-absent pinhead, and went to the Gamespot forum, also, coming up empty. Who knows how long ago the MCIR 109 keyboard thread was removed.....
Be well and happy, Yogi!

I installed Kodi Media Center on my Windows 10 PC and decided to see if my eHome infared device from Windows 7 days would work with it. It did. Days later my right flipper stopped working on many VP games. I struggled with the problem for the better part of a day not making the connection to eHome. Finally a well-worded Google search brought me right here with the answer. Unplugged the device and right flipper returned and could be programmed to right shift key again. Thanks..
