The wait is over! From now on Visual Pinball 10.0 is officially in the beta phase and you all can work/play with it and report issues if found. VP10 is different not only how it plays but also how create tables. We not only changed the graphics engine and the VP own elements but tried to improve VP in a way that it should be easier to build tables with it. Don't expect a brand new editor you won't see any big difference at first but there are subtle changes. Take a look at the changelog for more information what changed. Also we added some useful informations to the changelog how to use the changed or new elements and check out the new default table.

JPsalas created a nice original table (Papa Smurf) which you can also use as a reference for your table builds.

Again keep in mind that VP8/9 tables are loadable but not playable with VP10!

Please update not only the exe and the dlls but also the vbs files otherwise some new features won't work.

I would like to thank our alpha test team UncleWilly, JPsalas, JimmyFingers and Kruge99 for constantly checking new/changed features and for their inputs and ideas. Without you guys we wouldn't be that far!

This first beta version is ready to be used to build new tables so grab it and build tables with it. We couldn't check every combination of features so if you find something strange or buggy let us know.

I will update this post frequently if new stuff is available so it's easier for all to find everything.

Finally some credits for VP10.0
- Graphics engine/shader code - Toxie and Fuzzel
- Editor improvements - Toxie and Fuzzel
- Physics improvements - Mukuste

Also please remember to set your preferences again (video, keys, sound, etc), as VP10 uses its own settings in the registry!

Another important note: enabling MSAA in the control panel of your gfx card does NOT work (yet) and leads to missing table elements! please rather use FXAA/SMAA (in the control panel of your gfx card) and/or the new 4xAA (within VP video preferences).

And try revisiting the "Max prerendered frames" setting in the video preferences. It made a difference on my systems when disabling it (0), whereas VP9.9.X works better with it (2).

For the table authors: Please first take a look at the changelog and commandreference (included in the zip) for all relevant changes (including renaming of script functions and members).

For everybody: It cannot hurt to also update your PinMAME version (http://www.vpforums....showtopic=27063), as some VP changes rely on the new support in VPM.

Then also place the new core vbs files (take a look at the top of core.vbs for the list of changes) into your installation to make the connection work between VP and VPM. These are backwards compatible with VP9.

Here are also some (coder-art) material test tables, so that you can see what material parameter influences the material look in what way

(if somebody can come up with better ones, please post em here!)

Can I ask a silly question...

Will testing / installing VP10 have any adverse effect on our VP9.x configuration and settings?

No there shouldn't be any issues to install it along with VP9. The vbs files can be replaced and are backwards compatible to VP9. But it's a beta version so there could be bugs ;)

After a 3-4 start and stop of the default table, frames fall down and stutters like crazy.
I'm a bit lost with the new features, I will need some time to understand all of them, fortunately the weekend is near.

Thanks guys great job!

Max

As I said it earlier: VP10 is different and to get used to the new materials and lighting will take it's time.

Thank you for the hard work on this everyone! It is very much appreciated :) Had a quick blast around on the default table, physics feel great! The material editor is really powerful way of setting things up visually, I can't wait to see what the talented folks round these parts end up creating with it.
