I have a working version of my colorized DMD tweak for VPinMAME. This lets you set independent colors for the pixel intensity levels via the options dialog, and lets you switch between colorized mode and the standard monochrome shaded mode. As with the other DMD options, the settings are per-game, so you can give each game its own unique color scheme.
I'm going to ask the VPM developers if they want to include the changes in the main distribution. I think the changes I made are very straightforward and low-maintenance, so hopefully the feature will make it into the mainline in an upcoming release. In the meantime, I'm posting my own private .DLL build, along with my source changes, for anyone interested. It's based on the r3530 snapshot of the cabinet branch from the sourceforge pinmame repository. As always with these things, be aware that it's essentially untested and has NO WARRANTY, so use at your own risk. And please keep a backup of your existing .dll, in case you run into problems and need to go back to the working version.

Brilliant
Only problems so far are;
1. It shows a splash screen on loading a table.
2. It doesn't remember the position of the dmd.
Edit,
I check "Cabinet mode" and all seems fine
I also noticed that the splash screen and "cabinet mode" buttons seem new. I think these must have been added to the base code since the last official release - I built this with the latest from the source control system, so there's probably some experimental code from the VPM developers in addition to my own experimental code.

Just a quick one - there are a few color conversions done in that Pinside thread
https://pinside.com/...olor-dmd/page/4
I tried the one in the thread for The Shadow and used for Fish Tales just to play around.
The following are the translations of the Hex Color Codes to RGB:
100%
66%
33%
A few snaps of the resulting DMD:
Impressive, I'd say. The goal for several in the Pinside thread was to closely match the color scheme of the playfield or side art.

Here's the conversion for Whitewater from the Pinside thread:
100%
66%
33%
0%
And results:
yeah, I did The shadow (it looks awesome!!!) and Demolition Man with those numbers posted in that thread. I did a cool Judge Dredd too, will post the config later I'm at the laptop right now.
I like the Demolition Man color scheme as well. It's a little easier to see the capabilities of the mod as there are two primary colors used in the conversion.
With only four shades to work with, I can see it being easy to get a result that looks pretty bad but done right, this adds another dimension to the result. I like it a lot. Now imagine what can be done with 16 shades!

i added the changes to the official branch, and also released a new combined, official alpha/beta VPM dll here: http://www.vpforums....showtopic=27063
Thanks to mjr! (And also to all people that release their color schemes here, looking forward to more)
