Theatre of Magic VP91x v2.1.1

Version: 2.1.1
Category: VPinMAME 9.x Recreations

Author(s): JPSalas

Description:
Based on the table Theatre of Magic from 1995 by Bally.
I tried to make the table the way I should like to play it in the computer. I have not tried to make a 100% copy of the original table. As you may know, I like wire ramps and I like to see as much as posible of the playfield. Well, if you don't like it, then MOD it!

First I should like to thanks to all the authors who have done this table before, like Jamin, PD, PK, Fuseball, Dorsola, Guittar, Kristian, Jive and maybe someone who I have forgoten. Without their tables I could have never done this one. After many attemps to get the trunk to work using a mech definition, I had to study the trunk code from their tables to adapt it to my table.

Speaking about the trunk: in vpm the trunk has 280 positions, and my animation just 36 frames, and there is one problem: sometimes the cube doesn't rotate as it should and it stops a few steps before truning completely. This adds some more excitement since the cube has its own life (actually it will work fine most of the time )

I have used PK's settings from the Ultracade machine on most of the parts, and they aren't so different in gameplay to my last tables. They make the table play fast, as it should be in this kind of tables.

I have nothing more to add, you all know this table, much better than me, I'm sure of it

Enjoy
JP

Update 2.02: Thanks to James for finding and fixing two bugs:
- the top diverter was not working
- the ball was lost when the ball was on the magnet and the cube rotated the other way.

Update 2.1
- updated for VP91x, with new alpha ramps, new settings, and some graphics changes.

2.1.1 Fixed bumpers loop and ball stuck

These are my tables, sorted by date, all them playable with VPX 7 or newer:

After 18 years making tables, it is time to take a rest and let new authors do their thing.

I guess at last I'll play some more pinball :). But I'm sure I'll make some table updates from time to time :)

Looks great JP! Thanks for continuing the JP saga smile.gif
I'm also curious how the PK settings play so added on my "to-play-list" for tomorrow.

Very Nice. But very CPU Hungry smile.gif I guess because of the GI.

Nice Table to Mod wink.gif But not now, it´s not one of my favorite Tables, even
if it´s in the Top 10 of all Time.

Is the wrong Tigersaw part of "your Version"?? On the real table it is an Object
and not a Backwall.

Greetings

Thank you very much JP!! That's a fine table recreation! What about colouring the left ramp silver? I thing it could be better looking because the real table has a different (plastic ramp) there, so, a silver one can make the left part different from the right, as on the real one...

Another beautiful one from JP! Thanks! I like the physics on this one.

Is anyone else having a problem with the inner-loop ball lock?

Yeah, the diverter that puts the ball in the back of the trunk doesn't fire.

I managed to get a multiball, though. Lucky nudge got the first ball in, lucky backhand got the second one. When you hit the magnet for multiball, it plays this bad*** sound (attached).

HI

When I play Lord of the Rings VP9 it plays beautifully. For some reason this table has got a kind of echo on it when it starts up and the ball is very cherky...

i dont know why but LOTR, TOTAN, AFM,... for the VP9 play wonderful on 1600x1200 no problem what so ever.

I am using the latest MacPro and Bootcamp running Windows Vista nativ...

Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processors
6GB memory
640GB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB

any ideas?

Thanks the man from Austria
PS: great tables, great fun, great memories THX

This is because of the GI Lightsteps. They are very CPU consuming

My current VPX Tables I am working on:

Attack from Mars/Finished - The Walking Dead Pro/90% - The Lord of the Rings/75% - Family Guy/90% - The Simpsons Pinball Party/15%

Thanks jpsalas, nice Cube and sharply playfield.

Why is the table so slow (cpu)? No fun to play for me. I have cpu 3,2 ghz single core.

LOTR, MM.... good playing the ball.

The best solution would be to have a dip setting to disable the GI. I find that makes tables playable by a larger variety of systems.

If you know scripting, you can always comment out the lines that control the GI, just don't comment out any SUbs or you'll have errors.

GI in that way is always Power Expensive. Thats why I do not make that kind of gi on my Shadow Table.
So i can reach most of the People with different types of systems.

Attack from Mars/Finished - The Walking Dead Pro/90% - The Lord of the Rings/75% - Family Guy/90% - The Simpsons Pinball Party/15%

Thanks JPSalas for this great TOM release. cool.gif

Very sharp playfield and the cube is amazing.
i miss the vortical Tiger Saw, can you animate the Tiger Saw?
Would like to see a votical version.
Sorry i was blind, i see the spinning Tiger Saw now. Thank you very much for this.

The flipper setting are very nice.
The ball runs fine, with small jerking somtimes if the playfield flashed.

4GHz Intel Dual core
Nvidia 285 GTX with 1Gig Ram
4GB Ram
Win XP SP2
1650x 1080 resolution

Your Tom version needs more performance as a Future Pinball biggrin.gif

nope. Williams/Bally used different Kind of GI. The Gi on that tables pulse in a circle, and turn off and on during play.
Stern Tables mostly have a constant GI just for Lightning and not Effect use.
Emulating that Williams/Bally GI, causes much slow downs, cause it use more steps to animate. Most "fast" running Tables
have just ON and OFF GI, and Williams GI have 8 Steps
