No worries buddy, I have now created a plasma version of the firmware for plasma users who want the slightly lighter shades :)

I am currently writing a pinDMD2 firmware upgrade guide to help people update there pinDMD's with new firmware when available :)

the initial install process can be a bit tricky but once its installed it takes seconds to install new firmware :)

im also working on adding a feature to the firmware where you can set the shades contrast / brightness your self using a little update application (the pinDMD2 will remember this setting even when it loses power). this way people can choose how dark/bright the shades are and set the DMD up to what suits them :) (i prefer really dark shades but some people might not hehe)

thank you russ. you were very reactive
I'm updating the board. it works very well now. it's just one small problem with the top of the dmd line when all the LEDs are lit on the screen. at 1mn02 1mn10 1mn13 etc.

What color is your 16x16? Do you have a video of it running?

glad it worked vulbas, hmm that line is a bit strange ill look into that today.

on medieval madness what do i need to do in the game to replicate that dmd animation with the weird line?

is it just this one game on that one animation it does it? or have you seen the same artifact on other games/animations?

how are you finding the darker shades?

how did you find the firmware upload process was it ok?

as for pinLED i dont really recommend them as i seam to have alot of problems with them. but as vulbas has shown they do work. and for us Europeans its pretty much our only choice :( which really sucks.

does any one know if xpin have a European distributor?

I have just received the package.  Hooked it up, and upgraded the firmware in less than 3 minutes. So far so good (no problems running DfuSeDemo.exe on win7 pro 32bit, usb 2.0 on motherboard). I did not connect the display during install/upgrade, (so if it doesnt work on your cab, you could always use another computer/laptop)

will update with video

euro distributor for xpin is "best of pinball" but they have just completed a move, and have yet to respond to my mail regarding the dmd displays. They do carry the other alphanumeric xpin displays.

Here is the promised video of my 16x16 block orange Pinled display.  Block spacing looks much better than I expected. Much better than the video's i have seen (like russ' pinled display)

@bosvrucht

Wow that looks really good! Some of the best gridlines i have seen on none vishay displays. When did you buy it? And do you have the same problems as vulbas? I am tempted to buy the 16x16 version if the problems with pinDMD is solved?

Do you have glass in front of it?

@ Russ:

Been testing for about an hour now, and i would say it looks 99%.  I can see no problems when running a roms built in display test, but when really looking at the display, close up, during gameplay, i can notice a slight flicker on 2 leds on the first and second colomn, third and fourth led. This only when the display is heavily updating other pixels.  This is only noticeable when you press your nose up against the display and look really hard...........    so more than good enough for gameplay.  I am pretty happy!  The adjustable brightness sounds like a good idea,   everyone has different preferences....    so relax, and work on that when you had a couple of nights of decent sleep!

thanks!

@ hotdp:

bought it this december, and yes, there is a sheet of clear 2mm plexi in front of it (it is installed in a standard data east speaker panel). I am still looking for foam, and maybe a filter. Reccomendations anyone?

I find the black too dark. perhaps because I have a tinted film before.
I made another video with golden eye. there is catastrophic.
update the firmware, very simple.

problem at 8s 19s 2mn12 etc

sorry: russ (

@bosvrucht so you are on pinDMD 2 with a 16x16 ledDMD and you do not have the same problems as vulbas?

Maybe there is other changes to the 16x16 then the led's if this is the case?

Hey Russ, cheers for helping me out, the shades now seem spot on. Still maintain this little gizmo is the best thing I've added to my cabinet :good: Seems to be running really well with no glitches.

@vulbas and Russel

Tried to do the same goldeneye sequence on my Pinled display (still on rev557). No major issues here.

it's great that it works.

pinled sent me a red instead of orange that I ordered. I'll check with them if they can send me the right one.

vulbas - are you sure the cable ribbon cable is in tightly and not loose / the usb cable is not going near any power cables.

i will run the golden eye rom in a sec and see if i can replicate that problem your seeing :)

bosvrucht - could you tell me which games you can see your 2led flicker problem on so i can replicate it :)

one of the main reasons i went down the stm32f407 route is because of its very fast DFU update feature. it enables me to sort out these minor issues people find and issue firmware very quickly :)

I hope every one who has received a board so far is happy and not disappointed :)

nearly finished my DFU guide pdf and will upload shortly :)

does any one know if xpin have a European distributor?

I've asked bestofpinball.de, if they can deliver http://xpinpinball.c...lays/XP-DMD4096

They answered yes, but not before end of February/March. They did not named a price...

As I hope to be a proud owner of PinDMD-2 soon (package on the way, not delivered yet) and unsure if trying to order a Vishay in US, with all that custom hassle, or simply ordering in Germany...

So - can you recommend xpin - or it do you suggest to add some € for custom and some weeks for delivering (and waiting till Vishay are available)?

thanks

I sent you an email describing the problem, the game featured in the closeup is Medieval madness. but the problem is not only in this game, nor is it confined to those 2 specific pixels. it is confined to the upper left quadrant though, i would say the upper left 20 pixels or so. As stated. the problem is very, very, very minor. And to answer your question, yes i am verry happy
