After 18 years making tables, it is time to take a rest and let new authors do their thing.

I guess at last I'll play some more pinball :). But I'm sure I'll make some table updates from time to time :)

This plays flawlessly.... which makes me ask WHY?? Sorry, I am still in troubleshooting mode...

Why would this new table play so well, whereas some of your others have been reported as studdering on some systems? My only thinking is 'alpha ramps' ???

JP, thanx so much for your work here. Can you tell me what is different between this table and ,say, TOTAN. What are the main differences, just alpha ramps???

Really want to know why this is so smooth as butter and some others are not, so I can get them all like this!!!

Cheers,

Maceman

The main difference are the alpha ramps, yes. But there are a few things that makes tables like TOTAN slower:
- the emulation of the ROM in TOTAN needs more cpu power, and other too, for example the Gotlieb 3 tables and the newer Stern tables (LOTR, Elvis ++) need more cpu power. The ROM in Cosmic Princess is easy to emulate. I guess the sounds are the responsible for the slowness (but the Data East tables have stereo sound and they emulate very well)
- there are many more GI effects and flashers too. All the graphic changes needs more power. VP isn't very fast doing dropwalls or lights. I think this is what slows down a lot the table.
- now the alpha ramps are also slowing down the tables too. But the good thing is that the computer are more and more powerful smile.gif The good think with the alpha ramps is that you can move the slider all to the left and the tables will play much better smile.gif

It may be the dropwalls.I am not familiar enough, but from my questions to different authors, it seems that dropwalls could be a factor.
In speaking to UW for example, he told me he doesn't use dropwalls, and I don't have any slow downs on his tables.

Also, my CPU(i7) never exceeds 30% running VP, so don't think it could be that in my case anyways.

I just put in a new 'X-Fi Titanium gamers' to see if it was a sound issue with my onboard card, but it is still the same for me....

Oh well, one day this will be history as our Dev guys work towards a sol'n.

Thanx all!!

Maceman

Updated the table to version 1.02

- fixed two switches (the ones which turn on the lights 2 and 5 were exchanged)
- fixed the lower bumper so it doesn't increase the bonus (it was a script error, you know cop/paste smile.gif)

The DIP switch coding in version 1.02FS seems to be OK. Are you sure you pressed F3 after changing the selection?
