Cheers Russ, that's a real bummer about your motor. Fingers crossed it will be a warranty job...

My cabinet is a salvaged Funhouse table. The window for the DMD on the speaker panel is sized for a smaller two line segmented display. Just done some measuring and the new style DMD won't fit as its wider sad.gif Bugger...

yup £1366 for two inlet manifolds + motor + labour
ouch

hopefully warranty covers that if not thats all my project money gone booo sad.gif

will have to see if i can find a company to build and sell the boards for me and just give me a cut. rather then me buy all the parts and get them assembled and sell them my self.

ill keep you informed smile.gif

i did manage to send one of my prototype boards to maxxsinner today, so hopefully end of the week he can confirm the new vishay led displays are cool to smile.gif

Few different places bladexdsl for Aus with a quick google search.

Mouser in the USA has the same one as I am going to test Arcade4

I am guessing the $267.00 Vishay at Mouser does not need the crazy voltages that the $129 version at Mad Amusments needs to run?
Also I notice that Mouser has 0 in stock anyway.

Sorry Arcade4. They had 2 instock when I checked and now its a 12 week lead time!
The Vishay displays only need 5 VDC power supply.

Thanks. The one at the link below is a Vishay as well. Awesome price but it uses a bunch of odd voltages.

if you find any cheap vishay displays they will all most certainly be the old plasma vishay displays. its all he new ed stuff thats expensive, but i guess thats the price you pay for convenience

element14 seam to have ok prices so do mouser but some of those other companys are CRAZY so be careful where you buy these displays from!!!

yes, but the display is the old plasma style and will need a pinball transformer to give it all the correct voltages! (pinball transformer + cheap plasma display = more expensive then just buyin led version)

but if you already have old pinball parts its deffo the way to go!! smile.gif

We need your dad's powerdriver board, so we can use some cheap plasma dmd (and imo better looking than led).

Put me down for such a set please dblthumb.gif

cheers
Chris

hes been a bit busy recently so hasent done much at all sad.gif the 12v plasma vishay versions use a in house coil component to get the nice voltages. he cant find a decent way to do it at the moment.

i much prefer the plasma look to led as well smile.gif

I am about to order a vishay led, but you make me doubt.

what are the pro and cons of the plasma vs led?

id wait untill the end of the week untill i can confirm 100% vishay led will work ok. before you order it!!!

LED versions only need a simple 12v or 5v supply. the plasmas need all sorts of crazy voltages + power board to drive them.

Understood sir!

My question was more about the quality of the image, brigthness, contrast, life length etc

Before your two posts I understood the led was better, and I was ready to pay the difference, now I am confused

its down to each person what they prefer really, i much prefer the look of the plasma display but thats my own opinion

i think led displays are ment to last longer
they are deffo brighter
they only need 1 voltage 12v or 5v (depending what model you buy)

its the voltage thing that gives them the huge advantage, to power the led versions you can just plug it into a simple pc psu or any 12v/5v source. but the plasma displays need +70v,+5v,+12v,-110v which is a pain to make + u need all sorts of smoothing caps n shit.

currently does not support 192x64 games, but this is purely because i have not written any conversion code for it YET
im currently working on the virtual alphanumeric conversion code so it displays all segments on the dmd as virtual segments

yeah im from the uk, i think mouser is my best option for vishay displays, any thing i order from the usa i am gonna get stung with the 20% uk VAT import sad.gif

What games use the 192x64 display system?

Also, what about Capcom's flipper football? The DMD on that thing is HUGE! smile.gif

Great project, keep up the good work!

as far as im aware only Baywatch,Frankenstein,Batman and Maverick use the 192x64.

i will at some point play with some scaling code so at least the display is not blank, i thought maybe i could just cut out a 128x32 window in the centre of the 192x64 display. or maybe seeing as its twice as high i could copy every other row and maybe every other column and resize it that way.

as for Capcom's flipper football hmmm lol same as above? smile.gif

ill have a play at some point and see what looks best smile.gif

Sorry to insist russdx, but why do you prefer the plasma, I'm just trying to understand your opinion.

I also don't like too bright displays, to not be dazzled in the dark.

It's difficult to choose without testing, so I need as many information as possible.

That's it? I hadn't planned on adding those tables to my build anyway, so for me, it's a win-win situation. smile.gif
