Spent the better part of the weekend updating my temp cabinet, including adding a USB audio card so that I could separate out table sounds.

However, I can't get the sounds to separate. no matter what settings I pick in audio options (and always closing and reopening Visual Pinball after every change) sounds all go to whatever Windows sets as the default audio card.

I can change the default card to my internal USB card in Windows, and vpin sends all audio to that card.

Running 9.2.1.

Any ideas?

vpinMame controls it's own audio settings and is always pushed through whatever is the Default sound device in windows. In Visual pinball you should first set BOTH the output sound AND the backglass sounds to your secondary sound device.  See if that gives you the sound separation you are looking for.

Also don't test with a table like LOTR which (by default) overrides the ROM (vpinmame) sounds with sounds from visual pinball. That one confused me for a bit.

Thanks for the reply.

Is there a table you would suggest for testing this? I've tried testing with a variety of tables with no luck: Medieval Castle, Big Bang Bar, Beatles, and Rocky and Bullwinkle.

And doesn't seem to matter if I set both check boxes to the non-default device, sounds still only come from the default.

I have a similar issue. I spent an evening a few weeks ago trying to get separated audio, but failed. I'm also running 9.2.1 (9.9.1 doesn't work for me).

I'm moving onto other parts of my build but will return to this issue as I bought a 5.1 system for my cabinet for the very reason to separate cabinet and game sounds.

Reporting back in case anyone ever tries searching for this issue in the future...

I just rolled back to 9.1.5, and the sound separation works fine. Must be a bug in 9.2.1.

I have VP990 window7 and SOUNDCARD 1 ( Onboard Realtek )

                                             SOUNDCARD 2 ( Prosound PCI Soundcard )

With the same problem with you I have try many setting and this is what work for me.

if you want.        SOUNDCARD 1 to play MUSIC

                               SOUNDCARD 2 to play SOUND

you have to set windows SOUNDCARD 1 to default.

   and VP preferences audio options

   set to:

        play music:     SOUNDCARD 2

        play sound:     Primary sound driver

Don't know why it has to set opposite way.

LOTR is the only table I am having trouble with. Sounds fine on laptop but in cabinet the sound effects are way too low can barely hear them. Any advice on how to adjust this game? I'm a big noob. Thanks in advance!!
