Well hello VP community, it seems that I have caught THE bug!  :bye2:

Like so many others I have been lurking for years hoping to someday build my own cabinet. Only recently have I gotten back into it and seen what incredible strides this hobby has made. I'm preparing to jump in so I'll be starting my build thread very soon!

A little about me...I live in the New England region in the USA and I'm one of those rare males in my early 30s that loves pinball. My grandparents had an a 1958 Gottlieb Criss-Cross that I would ask to play every time I visited.  It "worked" maybe 50% of the time.  However, my grandmother recently revealed that it worked 100% of the time but they didn't want me on it so much. Boo! Unfortunately, I was unable to save the machine as it was sold to (hopefully) a happy home years ago...boy that was a fun one!

Anyways, I recently took my 3 year old daughter to a great pinball arcade for the first time and she LOVED it!  That has been the real catalyst to get me seriously thinking about creating our very own cabinet. I'm nervous about the electrical part of it but I'm so happy to see so many veteran builders still helping the rest of us out.  I'm sure that you will see plenty of questions/threads from me in the near future...please go easy on me....and a million "thank-yous" in advance!

Oh and my all-time favorite table is Theatre of Magic! So happy to be here and ready to get started!

Justin aka Galooch

Thanks everyone!  I'm curious if there is anyone on these forums from MA or the New England area that has a cabinet built with all the bells and whistles?

Hi Galooch and welcome!

I'm from the New England area - Western Mass - and caught the bug like you about a year ago.  Found an old Space Invaders cabinet and converted it to a virtual cab:

I knew next to nothing when I got started, so feel free to ask any questions here or via PM and I'll do my best to help you out!

Thanks everyone!  Inching away here and continuing my due diligence.

Ark - great to know that the bug has caught someone nearby!  Sweet cabinet too...you definitely filled that thing with all the toys.  I'll be ordering Zebs stuff soon.  I have some questions that I'll PM you about.  Thanks.

You could just build a mini-pin, i build one in a week or maybe less. If you never build a cabinet i would advice to keep it simple at first. Maybe buy a complete kit from Paul.

There is nothing to worry about electrical devices, if you do it right there is no high voltage in your cabinet. If you buy the right screens, there is no need for decasing them.

Thanks FreeMason!  Despite your completely logical and sane conclusions, I already made the decision to really challenge myself and tackle this thing head-on. It will be hard but hopefully in the end it will be worth the effort.

Just do your planning right. Buy the right things, read a lot.... it's a fun thing :)
