Looking at the threads here and found this image on how to wire it up to my LEDWIZ;

rgbstripv2.jpg

I know for the 5 bar in back of the playfield I have different resistors in line connecting to the LEDWIZ, but do I need any for these undercab strips?  Perhaps they are already built in?  Doesn't really show here, but the broken lines connecting to LEDWIZ give me pause like perhaps they are needed.  Otherwise I plan to wire exactly as shown here, including the inline amp.

Thanks!!

Definitely a good thing to double-check!  But you'll be safe without any added resistors for the LED strips.  The strips do indeed have the necessary resistors built in.

I still don't understand the need for the amplifier when you are sending power directly from the power supply.  Of the strips I've seen you don't need an amp until after 35ft, or 2x 5m runs.

The amplifier isn't for the power supply.  It's to protect the LedWiz.  The LedWiz can only sink about 500mA through each port.  The 60-per-meter 5050 strips draw over 1A (1000mA) per meter, so you'd fry the LedWiz without something between it and the strip.  Those little amps work as the "something".

The RGB controller below can drive a 5 meter strip easily:  Up to 2Amps per color channel, R, G, B.for a total of 6 Amps.  As mjr mentioned, try to do the same thing with the Ledwiz, you will damage it.

If you keep the RGB strip length less than 1.25 meter you should be fine just using the LEDwiz without the RGB amp.

As for sending power directly to the RGB strip, the LEDwiz actually sees the same current draw as the RGB strip does.   Current flows from the - of the power supply, through the Ledwiz Ground connection, through the Ledwiz outputs, through the RGB strip back to the + of the power supply.

Thanks for the explanation.  I couldn't figure out why on every video I've watched, there was no amplifier needed. (Videos didn't have ledwiz)
